John O'DELL was the son of Samuel O'DELL and brother to Keziah WILLIAM’S husband, Jeremiah O’DELL. John died in the Civil War and Mary I. DUTY O’DELL  married Jess WOOD on  6 Mar 1869;  children listed with them in 1870, Laura and Hannah.  Her Wm Adolphus O'DELL stayed with her, he married and had 3 daughters. see 1860 Wright Co MO #490-484 Jess’s wife is Isabella;  1870 Wright Co MO  #385;  Mary deeded her property to Johnny A. Wm. D. ODLE of Wright Co MO was wounded at the BATTLE of LONE JACK MO,  his Pension Certificate is #119528;  Here is some info I found.   One of the bloodiest battles fought in western Missouri in the early months of the Civil War was at Lone Jack, on August 16, 1862.  This encounter came about as Major Emory S. Foster of Warrensburg, with a thousand Missouri State Militia horsemen, was trying to disrupt intensive Confederate recruiting in eastern Jackson County.
The struggle on this bloody Saturday, lasting from sunup to midday, cost 81 Union soldiers their lives.  Of the Confederate fatalities, mostly among inexperienced recruits, we have no certain count.  Records preserved in the National Archives' Compiled Service Records of Confederate Soldiers from the State of Missouri are too sketchy to yield an exact figure.  Eyewitnesses to the hasty burial that weekend in two massive parallel trenches estimated the rebels' dead at between 59 and 118.  From surviving records we are able to identify 34 of those "boys in gray" who have lain through more than a dozen decades in their trench dug by the stump of the lone jack oak from which the town had gotten its name and two others who died of their wounds later.
