NEWTON CEMETERY
(also called Nancy Newton Cemetery)

Location: From Springfield, MO take State Highway 60- East to the 1st Mansfield Exit. Right from the exit is County 5 and goes into Mansfield. Left is EE County road that goes toward Hartville. Just after crossing the overpass and left is the side road or County road F. Follow this road and go west 1.7 miles. Take the curve and travel an additional 4.0 miles north.
On the left is an open field in cultivation and also a crossing of the Lick Fork of the Gasconade River. On the right in the field about 2/10ths a mile east on what is called Sycamore Drive is the cemetery on the right.
There is no name that we could find but we were directed there by the farmers of the area.

(Many rows of this cemetery are very uneven and especially Rows 23-30). The earliest legible stone dates 1852, but it is very likely that burials began sooner.

William TARBUTTON, son of Henry and Sarah Tarbutton, was born Jan. 4, 1821. When he died in 1867, his eldest son,
James Henry was but a lad of 15. This boy hauled the body of his Father  and the family from their home on CLARK'S Creek, by an ox wagon to the NEWTON Graveyard
on RIPPEE Creek. This was about 7 miles North of Mansfield , MO. It took them all day to make the trip......
