Shaddy Work

When I bought my first car in 1963, it was "understood" that one of the responsibilities that came with it was to provide transportation for my mother (Lavina Jones Rippee) and my grandmother (Alma Bramhall Jones/Claxton) to cemeteries shortly before "Decoration Day." This was the beginning of my "sorta caring" about who my ancestors were....and "Oh, the tales that were told that will not be repeated here." Although, there was the rather "dipsy" greatgrand-aunt who, each fall, escorted a herd of hogs through the neighboring woods so they could harvest the acorns....bedding down with them at night wherever that day's progress had led (after accepting an invitation from the nearest household to join the family for supper)....and never losing a hog, returned home sometimes over two weeks later (depending on the acorn crop) safe and sound(?). BTW: She is buried in Shaddy Cemetery.

But, I digress.....
