BENNETT, MARY ANN
Services for Mary Ann Bennett, 79, Route 4, Seymour, were at 11 a.m. Thursday
at Liberty Church with the Rev. Wilbur Cravens officiating. Burial was
in Liberty Cemetery under the direction of Bergman-Miller of Seymour. Mrs.
Bennett died at 10:42 p.m., Monday, at St. John's Regional Health Center,
Springfield, after apparently suffering a heart attack. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include five sons Foey, Raymond WA, Ira, Hartville, Raymond and
Roy of Seymour and Jerry, Fordland.

Ora L. Bennett, 73, Springfield, died at 7:05 p.m. Thursday in Cox Medical
Center following a long illness. A former Falcon resident, Mrs. Bennett
lived in Springfield for six years. She was a member of the Free Will Baptist
Church. Survivors include her husband Bob; a son Rev. Willie, Lebanon;
six daughters Mrs. Bessie Tinsley, New Meadows ID, Mrs. Jean Wise, Springfield,
Mrs. Norma Willhite, Hartville, Mrs. Barbara Kelley, Weiser ID, Mrs. Bonnie
Wineger, Council ID and Mrs. Kathryn Penkert, Miles TX; two sisters Mrs.
Jewell Bennett, Lebanon and Molly Frakes, Des Moines IA; 26 grandchildren;
and 17 great-grandchildren.

BEYER, MATHEW JOSEPH
Graveside services for Mathew Joseph Beyer, infant son of Mr. and Mrs.
Anthony Beyer, Hartville, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, in the Little
Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Leonard Baldus officiating. The infant died
Monday at his home of natural causes. Survivors in addition to his parents
include two brothers Anthony William Jr. and Benjamin Nathaniel, of the
home; two sisters Michelle Marie and Karen Kay, of the home; grandmother
Mrs. Waltraud Beyer, Finlayson, MN; grandparents Vina Nelson, Hartville

BLANKENSHIP, VERBA
Services for Verba Blankenship, 89, Seymour were at 2 p.m. Thursday, May
3 at Bergman-Miller Chapel with the Rev. Barry Eisenhart officiating. Burial
was in Seymour Masonic Cemetery. Mrs. Blankenship died at 12:07 p.m. Tuesday
May 1, at Springfield Community Hospital after a short illness. A native
of Wright County, Mrs. Blankenship was a long time resident of Seymour.
Survivors include three daughters Mrs. Mollie Barker and Mrs. Beulah Loveland,
of Seymour and Mrs. Mary Keller, Kansas City; a son Jack, Springfield;
a sister Mrs. Mabel Duncan, Springfield; several grandchildren; several
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces
and nephews.

BOGART, BERNICE
Services for Bernice Bogart, 71, Mansfield, were at 1:30 p.m. Saturday
at Bergman-Miller Chapel with the Revs. Dick Bishop and Paul Buchanan officiating.
Burial was in Mansfield Cemetery. Mrs. Bogart died at 12:12 p.m. Thursday
at St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield, after a sudden illness.
Mrs. Bogart was the owner of Bogart Sav-Mart and Ward Catalogue Sales in
Mansfield. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Queen City
Chapter 226 of Springfield and Mansfield First Baptist Church. Survivors
include one son Wright, Mansfield; a sister Mrs. Iris Cox, Springfield;
and five grandchildren. (She was the daughter of Jesse and Earnie
[Sawyers] Rippee.)

BRANSTETTER, J. L.
J. L. Branstetter, 76, Springfield, died at 4 a.m. Friday in American Fremont
Healthcare Center after an illness of one month. Mr. Branstetter was a
native of Hartville and a long time Springfield resident. He was a retired
certified public accountant who had been associated with McNabb-Branstetter-Westerman
since 1944. A retired Methodist minister, he served Springfield First Methodist
Church near Springfield from l973-75. He was also associated with the Walnut
Grove and Ash Grove Methodist Church. Active in St. Paul Methodist Church,
he taught the 50-50 Sunday School class for the past five years. He was
a member of the Springfield Ministerial Alliance and an avid wild turkey
hunter. Survivors include his wife Hazel; a stepson Glenn, Buffalo; a stepdaughter
Mrs. Janice Haralson, Cherry Hill, N.J.; three brothers Charles, Ray and
Francis of Mansfield; five stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services were 1:30 p. m. Monday in St. Paul United Methodist Church with
Drs. Robert Arbaugh and Harold Dodds officiating. Burial was in Clear Creek
Cemetery.

BRANSTETTER, V. MARIE
Mrs. V. Marie Branstetter, 49, of Kansas City North, died Feb. 2 at Spellman
Memorial Hospital in Smithville. She was born in Yale AR, but lived in
Kansas City 30 years. She was a member of the Gashland Baptist Church.
Survivors are her husband Ralph Branstetter Sr., of the home; three sons
Richard P., David Lee and Doyle D. of Kansas City; a daughter Tonya Jo
of Kansas City; a brother Orville Barber, Mansfield; two sister Mrs. Faye
Hurt, Kansas City KS and Mrs. Pauline Williams, Mansfield; and six grandchildren.
Services were at 10 a. m., Monday, February 6 at Mount Moriah Terrace Park
Chapel with burial in the chapel cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Branstetter
of Mansfield and their daughter, Mrs. Glenn Atwood, of Blue Springs attended
the services.

Graveside services for Gertrude Cline, 74, Mansfield, were at 10 a.m. Tuesday
in Mansfield Cemetery with the Rev. John Moles officiating. Burial was
under the direction of Bergman-Miller. Mrs. Cline died at 3:35 p.m. Saturday
in Mercy Hospital-Tri County after a long illness. Survivors include two
daughters Mrs. Joyce Barlett, Macomb and Mrs. Lois Ritter, Leeton; a brother
Virgil Prock, Wasola; 13 grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

COLTRANE, RUBY ALBERTA
YOUNG Ruby Alberta Young Coltrane, daughter of Albert and Ada
Pearman Young was born in Wright County, MO July 18, 1910 and departed
from this life September 19, 1984 at her home, at the age of 74 years,
2 months and 1 day. She was united in marriage to Leslie Coltrane on August
9, 1931, who preceded her in death January 5, 1984. To this union were
born one daughter and two sons. She accepted Christ at a young age and
united with the Little Creek Baptist Church. Some years later joined Shaddy
Chapel Church of Christ, where she attended on a regular basis, as long
as her health permitted. She is preceded in death by her husband Leslie
and two sister Macy Young and Sabert Hargus. Ruby is survived by a daughter
Mrs. Claudine Hightower of Hartville; two sons Dwayne of Hartville and
Truman of Marshfield; a brother Lawson Young, Hartville; a sister Osa Fisher,
Hartville; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of other
relatives, neighbors and friends.

CONNELL, THOMAS
Services for Thomas Edward Connell, 60, Norwood, were at 10 a.m. Wednesday,
Feb. 1 in Liberty Faith Church with the Rev. Reg Kelly officiating. Burial
was in Thomas Cemetery. Mr. Connell died January 28 at his home after a
long illness. A welder in the aircraft industry, he was a member of the
First Baptist Church and Masons Lodge in Mountain Grove. Survivors include

CRIPPEN, GERTIE M.
Gertie M. Crippen, 85, of Santa Ana CA, died SEptember 21 following a two
month's illness. She formerly lived in Mansfield and her late husband was
a cousin of Mrs. Ruth Brown of Mansfield. She is survived by two sisters
Mrs. Mildred Carter and Mrs. Elsie Smith; a daughter Delpha Dady; seven
grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Services were held at 10 a.m.
September 25 with interment in Loma Vista Memorial Park, Fullerton.

Services for Harvey H. Curtis, 75, Norwood, were at 2 p.m. Wednesday in
Mountain Grove. Burial was in Thomas Cemetery. Mr. Curtis died at noon
Monday in Mansfield Tri-County Hospital after a brief illness. He was a
mason O.E.S. #61 Norwood and a farmer. Survivors include a son Edward,
Liverpool TX; three daughters Mary Locke, Carol Hull and Martha Harris,
of Norwood; a stepdaughter Minta Dietrich, Mandeville IA; three sisters
Ethel Kirk, Napa CA, Margaret Mayfield, Sandy OR and Frances Bogy, San
Antonio TX; two brothers Cecil, Dimmitt TX and Glenn, Petersburg TX; 15
grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

DENNIS, MABEL
The body of Mrs. Garnett (Mabel) Dennis of Covina, CA was discovered in
the trunk of her car recently. Her grandson, Luke Stong, 24, was driving
the car and he has been charged with capital murder. Mrs. Dennis was discovered
missing from her home August 15 by another former Mansfield resident, Mrs.
John Kelly, a close friend and neighbor of Mrs. Dennis. Signs of a struggle
were discovered in the house and her car was missing. Mrs. Kelly notified
the police and the car was apprehended in Fresno. Services for Mrs. Dennis
were held Tuesday, August 21. Mrs. Dennis was a sister-in-law of Erman
Dennis of Mansfield and Mrs. John (Dutch Fuge) Critcher of Seymour. Her
father was the late Clarence Critcher of the Odin community. She had many
other relatives and friends in the area.

Services for John C. Evans, 81, Hartville, were at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wood
Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Wilbur Cravens officiating. Burial was in
Steele Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Evans died at 9:45 a.m. Sunday at Mercy Hospital-Tri
County after a short illness. Survivors include one brother Vick, Hartville;
one sister Mrs. Wilbur Carriger, Hartville; several nieces and nephews.

FREEMAN, JEAN WILLIAMS
Jean Williams Freeman, 58, Springfield, died at 11 p.m., Thursday, October
4 at her home after an illness of more than two years. Born in Mountain
View, she graduated from Mansfield High School and was a member of the
First Baptist Church in Mansfield. With her mother, the late Grace Williams,
she operated The Style Shop in Mansfield in the late 1940s. She lived in
Springfield since 1949 with the exception of three years in Washington,
D.C., during the late 1950s when she was active in the congressional terms
of form 7th District Rep. Charlie Brown. She was a member of ST. John's
Regional Health Center Auxiliary, a Red Cross Blood Center volunteer, a
member of Sorosis, and a charter member of the Voluntary Action Committee.
Mrs. Freeman's husband, Dale, is former editor of Springfield Newspapers,
Inc. and is editor in residence at Southwest Missouri State University.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sisters Mrs. Gladys Rodgers,
Marshfield, and Mrs. Melba Bench, Wichita, KS and a brother Lt. Col. (Ret.)
James Williams, Smyrna GA. Graveside services were at 1 p.m. Monday in
National Cemetery with the Rev. C.E. Atkins officiating.

BETH Nicole Beth Flageolle, 7, Mansfield, died at 1:03 p.m.,
Wednesday, April 11 in Cox Medical Center, Springfield following a long
illness. Last rites were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, in the Mansfield
First Baptist Church with the Revs. Dick Bishop and Ora Gayer officiating.
Burial was in Mansfield Cemetery under direction of Bergman-Miller. Survivors

HARRIS, C.L. "LLOYD"
C.L. "Lloyd" Harris, 91, a retired Christian minister, died Feb. 10 in
Monee, IL following a long illness. He was reared in Wright and Howell
counties, but left many years ago. A graduate of Johnson Bible College,
Knoxville TN, his ministry of 50 years was spent in churches in several
cities in Ohio. His last visit to Missouri was in October 1951. Funeral
services were held Feb. 14 with burial in Rushsylvania, OH, where he lived
before his retirement. Survivors are a son Joe; two daughters Inez Ray
and Vivian Farrington and several grandchildren; three brothers Roy of
Northwood IA, Paul of Mansfield and Fred of Tulsa, OK; two sisters Sue
Harris, Independence KS and Ethel Sternberg, Mansfield; a nephew Galen
Harris, Mansfield; a niece Mrs. J. H. McVay of Ava; and several other nieces
and nephews.

Services for Harding Harold Headley, 63, Route 1, Hartville, were at 1

under the direction of Wood Funeral Home. Mr. Headley died at 4:30 a.m.

HOGAN, DR. MICHAEL
Funeral arrangements for Dr. Michael M. Hogan of Mansfield, a Mercy Hospital
physician who was killed in an automobile accident in Arizona Sunday, were
pending at press time Wednesday. Services will be held under the direction
of Newcomer White Chapel Funeral Home of Kansas City. Memorial services
were held Tuesday in the Chapel of Mercy Hospital. Dr. Hogan, a member
of the Mercy Medical Staff since June of this year, was visiting friends
in Arizona when the accident occurred. He had moved to Mansfield from Arizona
to join Family Practice Associates, a medical group composed of Dr. Jerry
Jumper and Dr. Jim Tucker. At the time of his death, Dr. Hogan was practicing
at the group's Family Medical Center in Ava. A native of Missouri, Dr.
Hogan attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS and the University
of Missouri in Kansas City, where he obtained a Bachelors Degree in Speech
in 1969. He returned to the University of Missouri and was working toward
a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology when he was accepted at the Kansas
City College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1972. Dr. Hogan was graduated from
the Kansas City Medical School in 1976 and practiced medicine in Tucson,
AZ for the next eight years. He was a member of the American Osteopathic
Association, the American College of General Practitioners in Osteopathic
Medicine and Surgery, the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association and the
American Society for Cutaneous Surgery. Since moving to Mansfield, Dr.
Hogan had been active in the Ozark Mountain Players and had performed in
the group's Wilder Day presentation. Dr. Hogan is survived by his mother,
sister and five children.

Eldee Jones, 84, Route 2, Niangua, died at 6:50 p.m. Friday in Cox Medical
Center, Springfield, after a long illness. Mr. Jones was a retired farmer
and a member of the Pentecostal church. Survivors include his wife May;
two daughters Mrs. Dessie Jones, Niangua and Bessie, of the home; four
brothers Earl and Richard, of Lebanon, and John and Ralph, of Grovespring;
a sister Mrs. Rachael Griffin, Grovespring; and two grandchildren.

JONES, ROBERT HUGH
Robert Hugh Jones, the son of Elgie and Minnie Coday Jones, was born in
Wright County, November 16, 1898, and departed this life at Mansfield,
MO February 12, 1983 at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 27 days. He was
united in marriage to Elsie Light September 4, 1921, at Mountain Grove,
MO. To this union two daughters were born. He spent his entire life in
Wright County, most of the time living on the farm near Wolf Creek where
he resided at the time of his death. He was converted and baptized in the
year 1972 and attended the Wolf Creek Freewill Baptist Church as long as
his health permitted. Survivors include his wife Elsie; two daughters Mrs.
Vivian Shaff, Chula Vista CA and Mrs. Jean Johnston, Muscatine IA; two
sisters Eula Ivy, Hartville and Faye Platt of Springfield; four grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and a host
of friends. His sister Veneta Hammack followed him in death April 24, 1983.
He was well known in the community where he lived. His honesty, kindness
and friendly personality caused him to be loved and respected by all those
that knew him. His passing leaves a vacancy that will never be filled.
He is greatly missed but never forgotten by his wife, daughters, relatives
and friends.

home following a sudden illness. A retired merchant and farmer, he was

RAMSEY, KARON
Karon Lee Nail Ramsey, 36, rural Springfield, died at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday
at Springfield Community Hospital after a long illness. A native of Riverside
CA, Mrs. Ramsey was a 1964 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Long
Beach CA. She also attended Portland Community College in Portland OR.
Mrs. Ramsey moved to the Springfield area about four years ago, and was
employed as a freelance genealogist. She was a member of the First Ward
of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Survivors include her husband,
F. Scott; a daughter Jennifer Lynn, of the home; her parents Mr. and Mrs.
W. Richard Nail, Hartville; a sister Mrs. Glenda Faye Dasmalchi, Cedar
Gap; paternal grandmother Mrs. Jennie Lou Carrell, Marshfield. Services
were held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Friday, February
3, at 4 p.m. Bishop Smillie officiated. Interment was at White Chapel Memorial
Gardens in Springfield.

READ, ARVENA
Arvena I. Read, 63, of Exeter, died Wednesday, September 19, at her sister's
home in Tulare CA. The Mansfield native married Albert Read in Lawrence
KS in 1951. He died in 1971. The couple came to Exeter after their marriage
and moved to New Mexico in 1961. Mrs. Read returned to Exeter in 1979.
She attended the Exeter Assembly of God Church and was a past member of
the Farmington, N.M., Archery Club. She was a past member of the Bowling
Association of Farmington. She is survived by a son David Read of Tucson

Cemetery. Mrs. McLaughlin attended the services and returned September
29 to her Mansfield home.

ROY, MAMIE
Mamie Roy, 84, died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday in Lake Wood Nursing Home in Wichita
KS, where she had been five years. Survivors are a son Eldon of Little
Rock AR; two daughters Mrs. Norm Thomason, Wichita KS and Vern Chandler,
Hartville; a sister Mrs. Jennie Wells, Pasadena CA; a brother Orval Inman
of Norwood; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was a
native of Wright County. Bergman-Miller will announce funeral arrangements
which were incomplete at press time.

SANDY, ANNE-MARIE
Graveside services for Anne-Marie Sandy, 4 month old daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Guy Sandy, Mansfield, were at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 3 in Fannon
Cemetery south of Ava with he Rev. Dick Bishop officiating. Burial was
under the direction of Bergman-Miller of Mansfield. The infant died at
7:30 p.m. Monday at Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, after an illness.
Survivors in addition to her parents include her grandparents Mr. and Mrs.
Delbert Tellor, East Peoria IL and Rev. and Mrs. James Sandy Sr., Creve
Coeur IL; great-grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Homer Turner, Squires, Mr. and
Mrs. Clarence Tellor, Carbondale IL, Mrs. Alice Sandy and Mrs. Mildred
DeFrance, of Peoria IL.

STAPP, JOHNNY
Services for the Rev. Lawrence E. "Johnny" Stapp, 62, Highlandville, were
at 1 p.m. Monday in the First Baptist Church, Seymour, with the Rev. Wilbur
Cravens officiating. Burial was in the Seymour Masonic Cemetery under the
direction of Bergman-Miller of Seymour. Mr. Stapp was dead on arrival at
10 p.m. Thursday at Springfield Community Hospital. A Webster County native,
he was a minister at several area churches. He was currently serving Highlandville
First Baptist Church. A World War II veteran, he was a member of American
Legion Post No. 306 at Seymour. Survivors include his wife Carmen; three
sons Melvin billings, Rickie, Jefferson City and Michael, Branson; a daughter
Mrs. Beverly Harper, Ash Grove; and seven grandchildren.

STIGALL, THULA
Services for Thula Cleo Stigall, 84, Mountain Grove, were held at 2 p.m.,
Wednesday in Cope Free Will Baptist Church with the Revs. Darrell Oliphant
and Edwin Cline officiating. Burial was in Cope Cemetery under the direction
of Wood Funeral Home in Hartville. Mrs. Stigall died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday
in Hill Haven Convalescent Center after a long illness. Survivors include
one son Elmer, Mountain Grove; one sister Mrs. Ferriel Clark, Hartville;
seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

TODD, ANNA BELL
Services for Anna Bell Todd, 77, Mountain Grove, were at 10 a.m., Tuesday,
in Green Mountain Baptist Church north of Mountain Grove. Burial was in
Green Mountain Cemetery. Mrs. Todd died Saturday morning in her home after
a short illness. A native and lifetime area resident, she was a member
of Green Mountain Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband Ernie;
three sons Don, Plano TX, Clarel, Lee's Summit and Tom, Mountain Grove;
two daughters Bernice Bogart, Mansfield and Carlene Fry, Mountain Grove;
a sister Addie Wimberly, Cabool; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

VOLCKMANN, PEARL
Services for Pearl Volckmann, 74, Marshfield, were at 2 p.m. Friday in
Marshfield with the Rev. David Holt officiating. Burial was in Mount Zion
Cemetery. Mrs. Volckmann died at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, at Cox Medical
Center, Springfield, after a three-month illness. She was a member of Marshfield
First Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband Oak; one son Elmer
Russell Raney, Waynesville; two sisters Mrs. Clara Adamson, Mansfield and
Mrs. Ales Campbell, Mountain Grove; a brother Ervin Raney, Mountain Grove;
on grandson; nieces and nephews.

LANSDOWN, LEONARD
Services for Leonard "Red" Lansdown, 63, formerly of Hartville, were at
10:30 a.m. Saturday in Wood Chapel with the Rev. Archie Jones officiating.
Burial was in Steele Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Lansdown died at 7:10 p.m.
Tuesday, February 12, in Kendallwood Trails Nursing Home, Gladstone, of
natural causes. A native of Wright County, he spent 25 years in the Kansas
City area. He was a member of the Local Union No. 290, Kansas City. Survivors
include seven daughters Carlene Evans, Humble TX, Mary Cochran, Roselie
Ogaz and Dorothy Rogers, of Kansas City KS, Judy Sawyers and Donna Petty,
of Hartville and Betty Jones, Houston, TX; three sons Floyd, David and
Larry, of Kansas City, KS; three sisters Bertha Hutson, Hartville, Maudie
Holmes, Exeter CA and Dorothy Renfro, Garden City KS; a brother Clarence,
Hartville; and 13 grandchildren.

MOBLEY, DELLA "DALE"
Services for Della "Dale" Newton Mobley, 63, Route 2, Hartville, were at
2 p.m. Monday in Wood Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Eugene Fullington officiating.
Burial was in Moore Cemetery near Hartville. Mr. Mobley died at 1:10 p.m.
Friday in his home. A farmer, he was a native of Montque County TX. Survivors
include his wife Ethel; two sons Arthur Dale, Plato and Danny Ray, Marshfield;
five daughters Della Irene McCune and Carolyn Ann Moore, of Hartville,
Mary Lee Prater, Lebanon, Shirley Kay Coday, Mansfield and Melody Jo Caswell,
Seymour; 23 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother Billy,
TX; a sister Zelma Lee Cox, Modesto CA.

WOOD, FRANK E.
Services for Frank E. Wood, 71, Bolivar were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February
14, in Klinger Chapel, Springfield, with the Revs. Delmar Hutson and Harold
E. Ball officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Wood died at
8:32 p.m. February 11, in St. John's Regional Health Center, Springfield,
after a two-year illness. Born in Hartville, he had lived in Bolivar since
1966. He was a retired funeral director and had been an embalmer since
1937. A former owner and operator of Jonas-Wood Funeral Home, Steelville,
he had worked for Elliott Funeral Home, Houston, for 22 years and for Klinger
Mortuary, Springfield, before retiring in 1979. He was a former Houston
mayor and had been a member of First Christian Church. He was past master
of Lebanon No. 77 AF & AM Lodge, Steelville, a member of Abou Ben Adhem
Shrine, the Scottish Rite, the Stockton State Shrine Club and the Greeters
Club, Springfield. Survivors include his wife Beaulah; a son Bill, Steelville;
three sisters Juanita Cantrell, Jefferson City, Geneva Patrick, Picher
OK and Dolores Robertson, Bolivar; and a grandson. Masonic services were
at 7 p.m. February 13, in Klinger Chapel with visitation following. His
sister Juanita Cantrell, Jefferson City, is wife of Rev. Glen Cantrell,
Jefferson City, former residents of Mansfield. Glen is Vinita Claxton's
brother.
