Frances HICKS and George ROGERS/RODGERS
Frances
Hicks was born in 1805 in Clay County Kentucky (now Perry County), she
died before the 1860 Wright County census was taken.
Frances
was the daughter of Robert Hicks and Winifred "Winnie" Combs.
Frances
was married to George Rogers sometimes spelled Rodgers, born about 1794
in Virginia. The 1820 Census of Clay County Kentucky shows George
in the 26 to 45 age bracket and the only female in the household is in
the 16 to 26 bracket, and there are two males under 10 years old. William
R. was born about 1817 in Kentucky, it is most likely William was George's
son by a previous wife. George and family joined the wagon train made up
of relatives, Coday, Ingrim, Stacy, Hicks, Sumner and other families, about
1826, and made their way to Indiana. He settled in Jackson County.
Robert was born to Frances, in 1828, Isaac was born in 1829, Winnie was
born February 2, 1832, Andrew J. was born in Nov 1834, Franklin McHenry
"Henry" was born about 1835 in Jackson County Indiana.
About
this time these same relatives began to make plans to journey to Missouri,
disposing of holdings in Indiana, George and Frances with their family,
were again among the adventurous migrating party.
By
the time John was born about 1838 they were in Missouri. Wallen,
according to his Civil War papers he was born about 1840 in Ray county.
George B. was born about 1842, Asa was born about 1844, and Thomas was
born about 1846 in Wright County.
George (Sr.) is not found as head of household on the 1840 census of Ray
County Missouri, the family was possibly living with relatives.
William R. Rogers married Mary Ann Cobb in Brown County, Indiana,
on March 30, 1837 and they are on the 1850 Wright County census and in
1860 they are in Douglas County with Susanna, Ambros, Polly, William, Catharine.
Sarah and Debbyann.
Robert married Martha C., daughter of William Strong and Anne Binkley,
and they have a daughter Sarah in 1850 Wright Co Census.
Isaac married Polly (?) and they are in Douglas County in 1860, his
brother George B. is living in their household.
Winnie married on 31 December 1850 in Wright County, to John Strong.
Andrew J. married Elizabeth Young about 1858 in Wright County, they had
Susan, Noah, William H., Roda, Samuel and Mary F.
Henry married Eliza A., daughter of James Moore and Nancy Lanston.
1860 Wright County they have Joseph L. 4 years old and James P. 2 years
old. In 1870 "Lizzie" is head of the household, with Jos. 14 and
John 9 years old. Henry is not there, perhaps he was killed in the
Civil War. In 1880 Eliza has the surname Bristow and listed as a
widow with son John Roggers 18 and daughter Nancy I. Bristow 8 years old;
Joseph is living in next household with his new wife, Susan Coggins.
Joseph had a son Charley Rogers who married Emme Susan Tinsley, and a daughter
that married a Wade.
Wallen married Susan (?) Born December 25, 1844. They had Thomas
born October 1861; Henry W. born about 1864 (he served in CO E 5th MO INF
Spanish-American War); and John W. born about 1866. Wallen took his
family to Lawrence County before 1890, and by 1900 they are in Galena Township,
Jasper County, Missouri. He died December 1, 1922 in Newton County.
Susan died December 19, 1909 in Newton County. Both are buried in
the Hornet Cemetery, Newton County, Missouri.
Asa married Mary M. Vestal on December 10, 1865 in Laclede County,
Missouri. She was daughter of Jesse C. Vestal and Patricia Davis.
They had Sidney V. and twins, Joseph and Josephine that were born in January
1880. He married about 1881 to Sarah (?). Asa died December
10, 1894 and is buried in Springfield National Cemetery.
George Rogers married again after Frances died, to Jane (?), widow of Jonathan
Franklin.
