Mississippi Surname Books


The following is a list of books published for surnames in Mississippi. When possible I have included ordering infomation. If you have further information on any of the books or if you know of a book not listed, please email me. I am also looking for volunteers who are willing to do reasonable lookups.

"John Alexander: A Northern Neck Proprietor" by Wesley E. Pippenger, published by Gateway Press, Inc. Although, most of the information in this book is for Virginia, some of the lines made it to MS.

Simon Cumbest and Allied Families, by Melba Goff Allen.  Simon Cumbest/Combest was a Rev. Soldier and deserted making his way in Spanish East Florida.  He married and moved to Jackson County, Mississippi.  He is the son of Thomas Combest and Elizabeth Stone of South Carolina.  Simon married Maria Heva Kop.  This book has many Jackson County families listed.

Goff And Allied Families by Melba Goff Allen is the lineage of John Goff, born 1717 and died in Duplin Co. NC., and his descendants.  Many collateral lines are included. Many families from North Carolina made their way south and settled in Jackson County and married into the Goff family.  Rester, Ware, Carter, Graham, Jones and many more families.

McLendon's Of America published in 1983 by Melba Goff Allen is in the process of being re-printed. This family of McLendon/McClendon descends from Dennis The Immigrant who was in Perquimans Precinct in 1696. Many descendants and lines are included.

William May and his Descendants, by Melba Goff Allen. William May was born 1725 and lived in Bute/Franklin County, North Carolina.  Many of his children moved to Chatham Co. before making their way westward into Tennesse and some on to Arkansas.  This direct line is from his son Rev. Soldier Thomas  May.
