My gg grandfather was James W. BRYAN b.17 Jan.1840 MS. d. 3 May 1913 Calhoun Co.MS. He is listed in the 1880 census where he reports that his father was born in KY. and his mother was born in S.C. The 1880 census for Calhoun Co. also lists Thomas H. BRYAN who also reports that his father was born in KY. and mother was born in S.C. There is also a Robert B. BRYAN who does not say where his parents were born. I have reason to believe that these three men are related;probably brothers. Does anyone have any information that could prove or disprove this?

I am looking for BOLANDS and descendants thereof. As the genealogist for the “in process of being formed” Boland Family Association, I am searching for our Mississippi Boland Cousins. I am compiling information to publish a book on the history and genealogical records of the BOLAND family. As early as 1838 some of our BOLANDS migrated to Calhoun County, Mississippi. Namely, William Boland who had no offspring. But unlike William his two brothers, Fredrick Boland who was born about 1810 and married Anna Dollie Bickley; and Ephriam Walter Boland (January 2, 1824-November 2, 1902) and married Susannah Bowers (August 17, 1822-?) both raised large families. So we know the woods around Big Creek are just full of BOLANDS. I desperately need to contact someone in the Big Creek/Calhoun County area who can help me collect the needed information to ensure all our “Mississippi Cousins” are included in this book. If you can’t help but know someone who can, please tell him or her about this posting. Thanks, Don Whitaker

We are researching the Benjamin ROEBUCK family. He died in Calhoun County, Ms. on August 13, 1874. He and his deceased wife, Mary Willis, had several children living in this area. One of these was Tabitha Adeline, who was married to William Steele, and Benjamin was probably living with the Steele family when he died. Another of his children (our direct line) was Sarah Roebuck Pearson, wife of William Pearson, who died in Cass County, Ga. about 1899.
Thank you for any help.

I am searching for information on John Haley Brown and Lucretia Jane Harpole found on the 1860 census living next to each other except that his name is transcribed as John M. Brown. His mother - Irena Moon - is living with him and his brothers. His father William D. Brown must have died between 1850 and 1860 and then his mother married a Moon. The family is living next door to Simon Moon.

I found a Lowery connection in 1870 when Irena Moon is living with Gideon Lowry and his wife Elizabeth. His mother's maiden name was Irena Stewart and she was born abt 1808 in South Carolina. William D. Brown was born abt 1804 in North Carolina. They married in 1827 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and moved to Calhoun County Mississippi about 1840-1845.

Some of the family may still live in the area as John and Lucretia's son - Elias Jackson Brown died in 1970 in Calhoun City. My great-grandfather John William Brown died in 1937 in Derma, Calhoun County, Mississippi. After his wife Lucretia died, he married Mrs Eve Jordan, she was his cousin. John Haley Brown and Lucretia had 7 children: among them Elizabeth who married William Hall, Emma married Thaddeus Moore and Ida married Mayo Vance.
