GenealogyBuff.com is completely free and is aimed toward new researchers; trying to encourage more people to begin researching their family tree. A unique surname tool is on the main page which, when used, will give the user a plethora of database links to many online popular and obscure databases. A growing library of data files also exists in the library section of the website.

A really nice resource for statistics and county government information:  STATISTICS & COUNTY GOVERNMENT

The U.S. National Archives & Records Administration has placed online information about 9 million people who served in the Army in World War II.  World War II Personnel     Read carefully the search operators before submitting a search. It does not use state abbreviations such as GA, it uses a code. GA is 43.

CIVIL WAR SOLDIERS AND SAILORS SYSTEM

Check this out to make your own decisions: Civil War Documents  “We are able to search for records and get back to an individual within about 2 weeks. If records are not found, we have a refund policy. We are either the same price or cheaper than the archives. We have started a Research Package. A customer can "VIEW" a file to determine if it is their ancestor prior to paying for the full file. We will do this for a mere $7.95 research fee. If the file is the right ancestor, the $7.95 is applied to the cost of the file, so the individual does not lose any money.  8/2009

Have some fun using maps at: MAPS

You can go to a local family history center and request microfilm of anything they have in their Salt Lake City library. By using the card catalog at Family Search you can basically pull any county in the United States. They are microfilmed copies of exact books.
The Family History Centers only charge a nominal fee (for postage from Salt Lake) to get the microfilm from Salt Lake and the center keeps it for 30 days. If I am not mistaken, its $3.25 a film for 30 days and for a renewal, you get to keep it (at the center) for an additional 60 days (same film price). You can do a search on the same Family Search website to see where the nearest Center is located. The Houston, TX area alone has 15.

African American research with over 900 documents online that list slave holders, traders, and slaves by name.
The best way to search is by document and keyword. Do not do a name search. If you enter ANY you will get all documents that relate to your keyword. If you don't enter a keyword with ANY it will return all of the documents on file - all 21 pages!
A plus for both white and black genealogists and contributions from all are welcomed. African Heritage
