ENUMERATION

OF

CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS, SAILORS, AND

WIDOWS

CHICKASAW COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI

This information was copied from a book in the Chickasaw County Courthouse in Houston, Mississippi. This information was copied as I found it.  I am sure there are names spelled wrong, and I am sure there are dates wrong. The first section of this book is the list of Confederate Soldiers who joined the war from Chickasaw County, Mississippi. The second section is records of solders and widows who filed for pension who lived in Chickasaw County, Mississippi.

This book is dedicated to my Great Great Grandfather, 1st Lt. Jonathan O. Clark. Lt Clark is known to the family as Captain Clark. I have found information where Lt. Clark may have served as a Captain also. Captain Clark wrote a letter stating that their Captain had been shot and was dying but I have not found any information where he ever served as a Captain. Captain Clark also had two brothers who served the South in the Civil War, William Thomas Clark was killed in the Battle of Beaver Dam Creek, June 27, 1862 and Josiah Clark, the other brother, was at his side at the time of his death. Military records show this information. His brother Josiah Clark said he was kill the first day of The Seven Days Battle.

I wrote these names as I read them. Some are misspelled but I made no attempt to correct them. I counted 1,207 men from Chickasaw County who registered to fight in the Civil War. ................J.E.C.
