I am looking for any information on Drayton Bennett McCOY, born on August 23, 1801 in North Carolina. He married Edna Elizabeth BARNES of Alabama around 1840 and had eleven children, Henry Lewis, Evin Boyd, Erastus Amziah, Thomas Gilbert, Minerva Lena, Swinston, Winfield, Pleasant Monroe, Martha Lena, Drayton Columbus, and James Bogan McCOY. Some of them were born in Attalla County, MS. Drayton Bennett McCOY taught school in Choctaw County in 1860, where they lived at the time. They moved to Arkansas around 1867. Two of their children, Swinston and Winfield, died in MS before 1867 and I would be interested in finding their burial place if anyone has the information. Drayton died on August 8, 1888 in Kingsland, Cleveland County, AR.

McCOY, BARNES,
Christi Watkins Fri,  Dec 26, 1997
Looking for Drayton Bennett McCOY. Lived in Choctaw Co,MS from 1840 - 1865. Married Edna Elizabeth BARNES, probably not his first wife. More than likely had many children by 1st marriage and also by this wife. Taught school. Eventually moved the Cleveland County, Arkansas and owned lots of land. Looking for information about any of the families that might have been connected to Drayton. At one time he was sent back East to attend
Medical School, but never completed. Great likelihood of a connection between all McCoys from Choctaw County, but can't prove it.

Seeking information which may allow me to identify the parents of my 3rd greatgrandfather, Peterson McGILL. I believe that he might be the child of William McGILL Sr. who moved to Chickasaw Co. around 1845, and who died about 1852. The McGILL family moved to Chickasaw County from Pickens Co., AL. The family had previously moved to Alabama from SC, perhaps by way of Tennessee. An allied family which also made these migrations were the PETERSONs. During his time in AL, McGILL and James PETERSON were Whig candidates for the AL legislature from Pickens County. James PETERSON and his family wound up in Choctaw Co., MS.
