Algiers Family Cemetery
Contributed 29 Oct 97 by Julie O. Perkins

The cemetery is the ALGIERS family cemetery. There are only 6 known graves there, 4 marked, and 2 of those are empty. It's location is:

From Meridian, take Hwy 45 to County Rd. 514. Turn left. Go about 6 miles to where a logging road has been cut into the woods on the right. (If you get to the little crossroads of ENERGY, you've gone too far; it's back about a mile.) Go down the logging road about 1/10 of a mile and the cemetery is in the woods up on the right.

This is located on the property of the old Thomas Dawson ALGIERS homeplace near the Buckatuna Creek. T.D. and his wife, Martha Ann BARR ALGIERS, came to Clarke Co. and received a homestead of about 80 acres in 1859. They are both buried in this cemetery in unmarked graves, but the remains of a little "house" are evident, and may have covered their graves. Here also are the markers for their daughter, Lucinda ALGIERS O'NEIL, b. 1849, d. 1910 and her husband, James Joseph O'NEIL, b. 1845, d. 1926. Their bodies were moved in the 1950's into Meridian to the Magnolia Cemetery there. The original markers remain along with an iron fence around their plot. Also the body of their daughter, Mary Margaret "Mollie" O'NEIL HINSON lies here. I believe she died in the 1940's, and here is also James Washington HINSON, infant son of John Wesley and Mary Margaret HINSON 1898-1901. There are several large stones and one particularly large one that has eroded, so I suspect there are other graves here also. The entire plot has a hogwire fence around it and about 2 acres of the land is held in trust by the Methodist Church of Meridian.

Center Ridge Cemetery
Contributed 15 Jun 98 by Lisa Vincent

This Church and Cemetery is located at Horn, Mississippi, at the junction of County Roads 620, 630, and 632. It is well maintained and still in use. There are several graves which are marked with stones, but no writing. Where there was a double headstone, I have single spaced to indicate a husband and wife.
