The above photograph was taken in 1899 and shows the Andrew Jackson Shaffer family. Andrew Jackson Shaffer was the son of Adam and Louisa Colensworth 'Russel' Shaffer, who were buried in the Shaffer Cemetery at Siloam, Clay county, Mississippi. Adam Shaffer died in 1855, and was one of the first ten people buried in the cemetery. The land on which the cemetery is located was owned by Adam Shaffer.

Only a few of the people in the photograph have been identified; the elderly lady sitting in front center, holding a walking cane, was Louisa Colensworth 'Russell' Shaffer, born November 8, 1813 in Baldwin County, Georgia. Louisa died not long after this photograph was taken. The tall, clean shaven man wearing a hat in the back center of the photograph is Andrew Jackson Shaffer, born November 28, 1836, in Perry County, Alabama. Andrew died on April 12, 1926. Andrew's wife, Nancy Exine 'Melton' Shaffer, was standing to his left. Their daughter , Mamie Louisa Shaffer Brantley, is standing in the back, next to her parents, in the center. Mamie's daughter, Willie Exine Brantley, is the little girl with her elbow propped on her great grandmaw's knee.
