Biographies

Also known as Dan R. McGehee, born in Little Springs, Miss., September 10, 1883; attended the public schools; was graduated from Mississippi College at Clinton in 1903 and from the law department of the University of Mississippi at Oxford in 1909; was admitted to the bar in 1909 and commenced practice at Meadville, Miss.; also engaged in agricultural pursuits and banking; member of the State senate 1924-1928; served in the State house of representatives 1928-1932; again a member of the State senate 1932-1934; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fourth and to the five succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1935-January 3, 1947); chairman, Committee on Claims (Seventy-seventh through Seventy-ninth Congresses); unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination in 1946 to the Eightieth Congress; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Mississippi, 1940, 1948 (alternate). Baptist. Member, Freemasons; Shriners; Woodmen of the World; resumed the practice of law, agricultural pursuits, and banking; died in Meadville, Miss., February 9, 1962; interment in Midway Cemetery.
