Lemaitre/Canfield Memorial Ceremony
Saturday, August 27, 2009
First special thanks to the Sons of the Confederate Veterans, Sam Davis Camp #596. The memorial service for Lemaitre and Canfield was great, everyone I talked to, said it was great, more than they expected. I would like to thank my brothers David and Jerry, and Billy Fulton for assisting me in the clean up of this cemetery. Thanks to the Jackson County Board of Supervisors for removed of trash and donating a permanent sign for the cemetery. Also thanks to Holder-Wells and Heritage Funeral Homes for tents and chairs set up for the Memorial Service. Special thanks to the members of
Jackson County Historical and Genealogy Society for supplying data on all residents of this cemetery.
We have used a lot of time and labor cleaning the final resting place of your relatives. After two months of labor it was cleaned and the headstones could be read I had a feeling of knowing the person, it was no longer just a name.
By placing temporary markers on unmarked graves some descendents have come forward and identified their long lost relatives and have placed permentant markers on them. (This is my reward, seeing their face when a loved one is found). Their obituaries stated they were buried here, but were unmarked. It has been my pleasure to clean the final resting place of your relatives, so please keep up the maintenance on this sacred place. I would like to see these families form a cemetery committee to assure that maintenance in maintained.
