I grew up in Shucktown community. Have you heard of it?
There are
caucasians as well as African Americans with the same last name
of
Snowden (living in Shucktown). I have often wondered if
possibly the
caucasian Snowdens were once slave owners and after the
abolishment of
slavery, their slaves took on their name. Have you any insight
into
this. I am just beginning to search my family lineage and find
it to be
tremendously exciting. I am now at the year 1890 when my great
grandparents, John and Martha (Williams) Snowden lived in the
Shucktown
community. Your insight to this "sharing of last names" would be
helpful.
