Historic Midway School House

Preservation Efforts

Phase I

Friends of the Midway School have been raising money toward the renovation of the historic Midway School for many years.

The historic Midway School building, a designated landmark that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, recently received the award of a Mississippi Community Heritage Preservation Round 4 grant. This grant, which has been allocated under the provisions of Senate Bill 2010, Laws of Mississippi, 2004, and administered through the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, helped fund Phase I of our renovation project.

The scope of work included leveling all floors, installing piers and new floor coverings, leveling ceilings, replacing ceiling joists and rafters, and painting the ceilings. Bidding took place in September 2006. Johnny Harber Contracting began work on Monday, October 9, 2006 and completed phase I on January 18, 2007.

We wish to thank Senator, J.P. Wilemon; Representative, Ricky Cummings; Lt. Governor, Amy Tuck; Tishomingo County Supervisors, Tishomingo County School Board and First American National Bank for their support of this project.
