About Neshoba County, MS!
Neshoba County was formed from Choctaw Cession in 1833, as a result of the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek. Neshoba (originally Nashoba) is the Choctaw word for wolf. The county seat is Philadelphia. The links on the left. Those are your links to all of the information that is available on this site. Below are brief descriptions of those pages. "Addresses" is the page that you can find important addresses in Neshoba county. If you have corrections or additions, please send them to me. "African American" is the page that reflects the rich history of an African American contributions and influence in Neshoba County. "Biographies" is a new page and we need everyone to send us Biographies. "Births" begin in 1842 on "Submitted Births." There is also a page that will help you compute birth dates from cemetery records. Death records begin in 1847 on "Submitted Deaths." Records in Mississippi did not begin until 1921. "Books" reflects publication of books related to Neshoba county and if you have knowledge of additional books, please email that information to me. The "Church" and "Cemetery" records are listings of all of the churches and cemeteries in Neshoba. I have many cemeteries online that have the names of people that are buried in them. Those are all listed in the links section under "Cemeteries." If you have records you'd like to add, please send them to me! The "Churches" page reflects established and old churches, including some that may not have remained. The "Census" links and related information can provide some additional details regarding the individuals and families that make Neshoba county. They are in alphabetical order by last name. "Libraries", we are listing those libraries that would have information regarding Neshoba county "Maps", we need more links regarding maps, including land ownership maps. "Marriages" are posted from 1877-1920. These are in several forms: By Groom, by Bride and by White/Black/Indian. You may also post your ancestor's marriage information if they were married in Neshoba and not listed in the index. The "Military Records" contain Civil War Rosters and information about individual soldiers. "Newspaper Holdings", reflects sources for access to newspapers relating to Neshoba county. "Obituaries", we are making an effort to develop this page with actual obituaries, please send us copies of those that relate to Neshoba residents. The "Resources" section is a page that contains resources available for the Neshoba researcher. It includes books for sale, helpful links and lookup volunteers. "Search", our site. The "Surnames" page is where submitters can send the surnames they are researching. I post those names along with the submitter's email address. "Tips for Researchers" is a place for beginners to look to find where to begin research in Neshoba. If you have additional tips, please send them to me. Finally, the "Towns and Schools" section contains information on histories of Neshoba towns and communities. It also contains information about old schools and some pictures of the students. "What's New", is used to alert researchers of new additions to this site.
