The Rev. Arthur L. "Art" Slatten, 74, passed away Tuesday morning, March 2, 2010 at the Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood, Miss.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home with burial in Moorhead Cemetery. Dr. Jim Phillips will officiate. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
A native of Leesville, La., the Rev. Slatten grew up in Picayune and moved to Greenwood in 1973. He was a bivocational pastor who had served in several of the Greenwood area churches. He was also a building contractor, business owner and property developer. He was a member of the North Greenwood Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday school class.
The Rev. Slatten was preceded in death by: his parents, Arthur S. and Theresa (Lewis) Slatten; a step-son, Michael F. Jackson; a sister, Mary S. Jarrell; and two brothers, Chuck and Linn Carruth.
He is survived by: his wife, Peggy Fitts Slatten; two daughters, Brenda Slatten of Gonzales, La. and Reba S. Shemwell (Ron) and a son, Arthur L. Slatten, Jr. (Debby) both of Monroe, La.; two step-sons, Greg Jackson (Lee) of Jackson and Chuck Jackson (Kathy) of Greenwood; three sisters, Sue Carol Henderson of Fruitville, Texas and Myra Lynn Lee, Esther Gorden and a brother Clyde Slatten all of Picayune; grandchildren: Kristopher Dane Slatten of Shreveport, La., Andrea Danielle Beggs of Modesto, Calif., Mitchell Woods of Okinawa, Melanie Bradley of Prarieville, La., Annabelle Shemwell and Laine Shemwell of Monroe, Mallory Jackson, Elizabeth Jackson, and Christopher Jackson all of Jackson, and a great-grandchild.
