Mrs. Ava B. Newton Shugart, 87, a native of Orange, Texas., a former resident of Baldwin and Picayune, Miss., and a resident of Patterson passed away, Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 10:15 a.m. at the Patterson Health Care Center.
She was preceded in death by: her father, John L. Newton; her mother, Eola J. Parr Newton; her sister, Lucy N. Deslatte; and one grandson, Joshua Shugart.
Mrs. Ava is survived by: her husband, Jay C. Shugart II; four sons, James Shugart and his wife, Judy, of Lake Charles, La., Steven Shugart and his wife, Dianna, of Cumming, Ga., Glenn Shugart and his wife, Kyle, of Canton, Ga., and Jay Shugart III and his wife, Teresa, of Hattiesburg; two daughters, Katherine Shugart Callais and her husband, Larry, of Berwick and Deborah Shugart Shannon and her husband, Wade, of Sugar Hill, Ga.; her brother, Herbert Newton of Baldwin; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Monday, March 1, 2010 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Ibert's Mortuary in Franklin, La. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 from 9 a.m. until time of services.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Ibert's Mortuary with Father Greg Fratt officiating. Burial will follow in the Franklin Cemetery.
