On these pages you will find the resources you need to find clues to family ties to this island. By following the recommendations on these pages, you should find your way around the challenges that Caribbean genealogy research can create. Montserrat is a volcanic island in the Caribbean Sea, southeast of Puerto Rico. Since continued eruptions from the Soufriere Hills volcano began in the 1990's, thousands of people have been forced to leave the island. The country's capital is Plymouth, but due to the volcanic activity, this city has been abandoned since 1997. Interim government facilities have been built miles away at Brades Estate at the northwest end of the island. Montserrat is divided into three parishes; St. Anthony, St. Georges, and St. Peter.
