THORNTONTULLOS
DATE: 31 March 1997
NAME:
Doris Harkness

I am the ggg grand-daughter of James D. THORNTON and Clarky Ann TULLOS. James was born 1807 in South Carolina, the son of John THORNTON and Catherine KIRK. In 1830 his family moved to Monroe County. By 1840 they were living in Chickasaw Co. He and Clarky Ann were married in 1830. She was the daughter of Willobee TULLOS and Anna MILLS. They had thirteen children: Ransom, (my gg grandfather), Sarah (Sally), Catherine (Kate), James, Jr., Mary Jane, William Polk, Temple Tullos, Samantha, Alfred Brown, Elizabeth, Willobee, John, Stephen Matthew.

In 1857 James and Clarky, with twelve of their children, joined twenty-one other families from Smith County and migrated to East Texas, mainly Trinity County. Three of Clarky's brothers preceeded them by a number of years.

I would like to know if anyone can find the parents of John THORNTON. I notice in the census, there are a number of THORNTON and TULLOS families. I would like to extend my researchmarried Ellen ?? in Smith County, M beyond John THORNTON. Clarky's family goes back to Claudius TULLOS in 1641 in Northumberland Co. VA.

Also...Ransom THORNTON S 1850 - 1855. He was the son of James D. and Clarky (Tullos) Thornton. They later migrated to Trinity County, TX. I need the maiden name of Ellen.

I have just published the marriage records of Trinity County, 1912 - 1981 if anyone is interested. These families are included in the surname index. It is 322 pages with index. $21.95 plus $3.00 shipping.

I would like to correspond with anyone researching mainly the THORNTON and TULLOS lines.
