Rutherford Cemetery

Janis Parttridge and her sister Mozelle Parttridge Chason found a cemetery
that they had never visited.  It is located about 1 mile northwest of the
Sandy Bayou Cemetery, Drew, Sunflower County.
To get there, go to the Sandy Bayou Cemetery and continue down
the Long Lake Road for 1/2 mile. Take a right turn on the Grittman Road and
go 1/2 mile. The cemetery is located on the left,
on the only mound in the area and overgrown with weeds taller
than your head and vines entangled on the ground.
One really must go there on purpose, climbing a high mound and
being careful not to trip on the vines and roll down the mound.
We found only five graves, those being the Rutherford family plot,
enclosed in an iron fence.  The headstones are huge, at least five feet tall,
made of marble and are square at the base,
tapering toward the top. They are almost identical.

Way to go Janis and Mozelle!!

Janis and Mozelle, thank you so much for finding this cemetery and
recording it thus making it available to researchers from all over.
And a special "thank you" for the efforts both you and your sister,
Janis Sigler from Gulfport, MS put forth to have it named a "Historical Monument".

If you have access to any cemetery listings or tombstone photographs from Sunflower County, and you are willing to share them with your fellow researchers, please let me know.  I would like to have listings and photos for all of the cemeteries in the county.
Suggested corrections and/or additions will be noted in RED.
The original data will not be removed.  Do you know of others
buried here?  Let me know and I will post their names and data.
