My name is Janis Parttridge Sigler. My husband and I discovered the
Rutherford Cemetery while looking for his ancestors.
I have found some information on the Rutherford family that might be of
interest.
Thomas Rutherford was born in Ireland March 12,1837. Elizabeth Rutherford was born May, 1836 in Ireland. He was working as a farm laborer in Dutchess, Hyde Park, New York and living with Matthew Fitzpatrick (age30) and was 23 years of age. Elizabeth immigrated to America in 1857. They had seven children: John b. 1867 - N.Y.; Hall W. b. Feb. 24, 1870 - died April 28, 1889 born N.Y.; William A. b. N.Y. July 20, 1872 - died Nov. 18, 1889; Robert E. b. MS, Jan. 28, 1875 - died Dec, 28,1898; Lucy b. MS. Jan. 1889. I cannot find the other two children. Thomas died June 19,1896. In 1900 Elizabeth was living in Bolivar County, MS as head of household. She was a farmer and owned 93 acres of land. Lucy and her husband Henry R. Parks along with their daughter Virginia M., b.Jan 1898, were living with Elizabeth. Henry was born in Virginia. Virginia was born Jan. 1898. In 1910 they were still living with Elizabeth and had two more children. Henry worked as a clerk and Lucy was a seamstress. Their children were: Virginia age 12, Thomas Rutherford Parks age 7, and John Kirk Parks age 8 months. Elizabeth died Jan. 31,1920 at age 83, I assume in Bolivar County, Mississippi. I am not related to this family but felt that someone should try to do some background on them since I finally got it recognized as a historical cemetery. Maybe someone is researching this family and this will help. Janis Parttridge Sigler PS
