Brief Biography of Benjamin Grubbs Humphreys Born: 24 or 26 August 1808, Claiborne County, MS Died: 20 December 1882, Leflore County, MS Pre-War Profession: Entered West Point in 1825 but was dismissed following a riot in 1826. Lawyer, Farmer, and Politician. War Service 1861 raised the Sunflower Guards in 21st Mississippi. Elected as Capt. Promoted to Col.: Seven Days, Sharpsburg, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg. August 1863: Promoted to Brig. Gen.: Chickamauga, Knoxville, in Kershaw's division in the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, Shenandoah Valley campaign, wounded at Berryville, commanded a military district in Mississippi. Post War Career Insurance agent, planter. See also: Mississippi
