THOMAS ADOLPHUS JONES and his family were living in TALLAHATCHIE COUNTY, WEBB, MS. in 1930 according to his step-mother's obituary during that year. THOMAS A. JONES was born 24 November 1873 to ADOLPHUS EUGENE JONES and MARTHA JANE ROBERTS. THOMAS A. JONES died 28 Dec 1953 in an unknown location. I have a picture of his son, Thomas A. Jones, Jr. at about 10-12 years of age. Any information on the family would be appreciated.

"A HIstory of Tallahatchie County" was a booklet written by Lillie Neely Henry, edited by Jean Conger May and is no longer in print. Most of the information from the booklet is on the website on different pages as Helen gained permission for us to put it online.

This is an update. My email changed years ago. My name is Maryanne Butt. My father is Jimmy Lee Butt, son of Jimmie Oneida Davis Butt and Henry Willoughby Butt, Tippo. Henry's parents were Henry Wilson Butt (CSA) and Henrietta McNamara Butt, Duck Hill. Also related to Olivers and Murpheys in that general area.

LOST! Please help me find family documents on CHARLES PIERRE VERET, my ancestral uncle, in the CSA, 21st MS Infantry, "Tallahatchie Rifles", who was captured during the Knoxville Campaign, sent to Rock Island Prison. He was galvanized into the USA Navy. I have his records of his service on the US NAVY flagship. I suspect he was pushed into this, because he was so small, 5'6", and it was so cold at Rock Island. I have not found him on any census since 1860. I do know that he was alive in early 1900's, because I have the Tallahatchie newspaper that listed the whereabouts of most of the men of the Tallahatchie Rifles at this time. The paper stated he was living in Enid. Anything at all would be appreciated and you will be reimbursed. A copy of the VERET FAMILY Bible Records would benefit me greatly. But, again, anything at all would help me. Below is the family: VERET, Peter F. L., and the children of his deceased wife, Julia A. (CODY), appeared in the 1860 Tallahatchie County, Mississippi, Federal Census (named as NERETT(!)in the copy by Evans that is online). They came to the county before 1854 (the year Julia died and was buried at Rockey Branch Cemetery in eastern Tallahatchie County) from Warren County, Georgia, where they were on the 1850 census. Peter was a tailor and a family tradition states that he made uniforms for the soldiers of Tallahatchie and Yalobusha County-see 1870 Oakland census). He never remarried, so we suspect he is buried by Julia at Rockey Branch. Both his daughters are buried there with their husbands. Louisa married Jospeh H. HOUSTON after a first childless marriage to Alfred Daughtery. The youngest daughter, Rosalee, married Augustus F. CHAPPIUS and had a number of children. Louisa's marriage to Joe produced two daughters, Ethel Hart HOUSTON and my grandmother Sarah Veret HOUSTON. "Sallie" married John Smith ADAMS and their second son was my father, H. Houston Adams who married Lillie Lou CRENSHAW (not LILLIAN per the EVANS marriage book!). Doc and Lillie had two daughters, Sally and Barbara. Louisa was the step-mother to James Armstrong HOUSTON who married Lilly Maude ADAMS, a niece to the above John Adams. Thank you for the opportunity to place this query! Sally

Henderson BAILEY found in Tallahatchie Co, 1880 census with wife Mary J. This family was in Calhoun and Lafayette Co, Ms before then and in Montogomery Co, Ala in the 1850 census.
