 Family Cemeteries of Webster Co., Mississippi

Most all these cemeteries are very hard to find, and only a few have been located. Several of these families were some of the first pioneer’s of Choctaw Co., (now Webster Co., Mississippi ). I hope this these small note’s will help other’s, seeking their Ancestor’s! Most of these cemeteries are locate’d near Bellefontaine, Walthall, Maben, Montevista, & Holenlinden, in Webster Co., Miss. !

 

Bridges Cemetery – Walthall -               Wiley C. & Lucinda Bridges

Wiley C. Bridges was born abt. 1815, and died before 1870 in Choctaw Co., Ms.  His wife’s name was Lucinda, born abt. 1815, they were living in Choctaw Co., Ms. In 1850, & 1860. Their children were; Nicholas B., Drucilla, Harrison, Edward P., Columbus A., Harriett M., Archie Casper, & Henry Bascum Bridges . Columbus A. Bridges married Margaret Tabb.

 

Bingham Cemetery – Holenlinden -        William & Elizabeth “Pounder” Bingham

William Bingham was born abt. 1775 in Virginia, and died abt. 1865 in Chickasaw Co., Ms., he first married Polly Bingham, and second to Elizabeth Pounders May 21, 1810 in Grainger Co., Tenn.  They had seven children; Michael O., William, Thomas, Clement Cannon, Amercia Pounds, Adeline Morrow, & James Henry Bingham, who married Martha Suggs. Several of their children were buried at Double Springs Church Cemetery , near Holelinden, Ms.!

 

Cox Cemetery – Walthall -                    Charlie & Elizabeth “Eddins” Cox

Charile Cox was born abt. 1798 in South Carolina, and died after 1860 near Walthall, Choctaw Co., Miss. ! He married Elizabeth Eddins abt. 1827 in Alabama , and they had five known children. Elizabeth was born abt. 1798, the daughter of James & Rebecca “Green” Eddins.  Charile & Elizabeth settled in Choctaw Co., Miss. Abt. 1835, he was a Methodist Minister of El Bethel Baptist Church, and gave 11 acre’s of land for the church, and cemetery, which is Old Field Cemetery today! Charile & Elizabeth were buried at the Cox Family Cemetery, near Old Field Cemetery, & Walthall, Miss.  Their children were ; William Emry Cox was born Sept. 10, 1822, died June 2, 1896 in Webster Co., Miss. He married Sarah Ann Margarette Righley, and they had 9 children. Wm. & Sarah A. were buried at the Cox/Carver Cemetery, in Webster Co., Miss. !  Franklin Cox, born abt. 1827/1828, Nancy M. Cox, born Apr. 18, 1832 in Alabama , died Sept. 4, 1868 in Choctaw Co., Miss. ! She married Ivy Wesley Gammill Jan. 12, 1854 , and they had 6 children. Lucinda Elizabeth Cox was born June 7, 1835 in Alabama, she died May 14, 1909 in Eupora, Webster Co., Miss. Lucinda married Jesse Lawrence Latham before 1854 in Choctaw Co., Miss. They had 13 children! Jesse Lawrence & Lucinda Elizabeth “Cox” Latham were buried at the Eupora City Cemetery, Eupora, Webster Co., Miss. ! Willie “Willey” Cox was born abt. 1836, no other info. Known about her. Benjamin Zenas Cox was born abt. 1838, and died in Yazoo Co., Miss. ! He married Amanda D. Fisher July 19, 1871 in Yazoo Co., Miss. He married second to Fanny Evers Sept. 19, 1888 in Yazoo Co., Miss. ! Charlie & Elizabeth “Eddins” Cox have many descendant’s who still live in Webster Co., Miss. !

 

Earnest Cemetery Cumberland -   Certain S. & Cassie “ McWilliams” Earnest

Certain S. Earnest was born Apr. 7, 1798 in Warren Co., Kentucky , and died June 30, 1863 in Cumberland, Choctaw Co., Ms. He married Catherine McWilliams Apr. 7, 1820 in Madison Co., Alabama, they had a large family of 12 children, 3 daughter’s, and 9 children. Certain was living at Cumberland, Choctaw Co., Ms. From 1850 – 1860.  Their dau’s. were Nancy Jane Slaughter, Louvina Earnest, & Elizabeth White. Their son’s name’s were ; Isham C., William H., James Abram, Robert Haydon, John Aaron Monroe, Andrew, Hillard, and Jefferson McDonnell Earnest.

 

England Cemetery – Mantee -                 Thomas Welch England

Thomas Welch England was born July 4, 1818 in North Carolina, and died Aug. 23, 1883 in Lamar Co., Texas . He married Caroline E. Womack abt. 1844, Caroline E. was born abt. 1827 in Georgia, the daughter of Mark Sanders & Elizabeth “Avent” Womack.  Caroline died abt. 1853 in Choctaw Co., Ms.! After she died Thomas W. married Isabella M. Curtis before 1860 in Choctaw Co., Ms.! They had seven children. Thomas Welch England later moved to Lamar Co., Texas, and married Sarah McClendon Caroline E. “Womack” England, and some of their children were probably buried here at the England Family Cemetery . One of their son’s was John G. England, he was born May 1, 1847 , and died July 6, 1910 . His wife was Eliza born Oct. 13, 1843 , died July 13, 1924 . They were both buried at Old Cumberland Cemetery , Cumberland , Ms.! John’s sister was Sarah S. ( England ) Foster, born Dec. 1, 1857 , died June 24, 1941 in Cumberland , Ms. She was the wife of Moses Simeon Foster 1851 – 1930. Moses & Sarah “ England ” Foster were also buried at Old Cumberland Cemtery.

 

Easterwood Cemetery – Walthall -     Robert Easterwood

Robert Easterwood was born Dec. 2, 1810 in Spartenburg Co., South Carolina, he died Feb. 11, 1883 in Webster Co., Miss. He was buried at the Easterwood Cemetery , Walthall, Ms.! He married Eliza Ellen Gossett Nov. 7, 1839 in Coal Fire, Pickens Co., Alabama . They had 9 children, 5 daughter’s, and 4 son’s.  Their dau’s were Mary A. E. Easterwood, she married Thomas H. McQuarry, he was buried at Easterwood Cemetery . Martha E. Easterwood born Dec. 14, 1844, and died Nov. 5, 1846 in Pickens Co., Alabama . Clarissa Ophelia born July 8, 1851, died Sept. 1, 1880. Clarissa married William Milam. Louisa Gemmia was born Dec. 14, 1858 in Choctaw Co., Ms.! Their son’s were William James, John Calvin, and Robert Henry Easterwood.

 

Farris/Pharris Cemetery – Eupora , Miss. – John & Mahala “Brannon” Pharris

John Pharris was born abt. 1799 in North Carolina, he died before 1870 in Greensboro, Choctaw Co., Miss. He married Mahala Brannon abt. 1838/1842 in Mississippi , and they had six known children. Mahala was born abt. 1809 in North Carolina, and died after 1870 in Greensboro, Mississippi .  Their children were Sarah A. “Pharris” Lamb, born abt. 1842, she was the wife of John Wesley Lamb Jr., William J. N., born abt. 1844, Joseph W., born abt. 1846, Elenor, born abt. 1848, Emily C., born abt. 1849/50, and Frances V. Pharris was born abt. 1856/57.  Mahala Pharris was living in Choctaw Co., Miss. On the 1870 Census, she had her two youngest daughter’s living with her, they were Emily C., age 20, & Frances V. age 13. John Wesley & Sarah A. “Pharris” Lamb were also living in Choctaw Co., Miss. On the 1870, & 1880 Census of Sumner Co., Miss. ! On the 1880 Census, John was 51, Sarah was 38, and their children were ; John F. 18, Alice E. 16, William W. 14, Thomas L. 12, LuElla A. 9, Charile A. 6, James W. 2, Bobbie was 29 days old, also living with them was Emily C. Farris, age 28, listed as sister – in – law.

 

Four Mile Cemetery –  Maben -              Isaac Washington Buckner

Isaac Washington Buckner was Aug. 18, 1824 in Georgia, he died Aug. 22, 1893 in Oktibbeha Co., Ms.! He married Malinda Ophelia Barrington Dec. 31, 1848 in Tallapoosa Co., Alabama , and they had 10 children, 4 dau’s, & 6 son’s. Isaac & Malinda were buried at Four Mile Cemetery, in Webster Co. , Ms. Isaac & Malinda were living in Oktibbeha Co. , Ms. From 1850 – 1870, and Clay Co., Ms. In 1880. Their dau’s were Sallie Crowley , Missouri Dalton , Nancy Buckner, & Matilda Buckner.  Their son’s were ; Andrew Jackson born Nov. 11, 1849 , died Jan. 13, 1888 . He was also buried at Four Mile Cemetery . George Washington was born abt. 1853, James Buckner was born Apr. 15, 1859, and died Feb. 16, 1899. He was buried at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery , in Oktibbeha Co., Ms.! William L. Buckner was born Apr. 23, 1860, and died Oct. 3, 1875. He was buried at Four Mile Cemetery . Henry Buckner born abt. 1863, and Benjamin F. Buckner was born Nov. 25, 1867, died May 20, 1889, buried at Four Mile Cemetery .  

Fox Cemetery -                          Henry & Sarah “Harrell” Fox

Henry Fox was born June 12, 1768 , died Jan. 18, 1852 in Choctaw Co., Miss. He married Sarah Harrell abt. 1789, they had 13 children. Sarah “Harrell” Fox was born July 30, 1772 , and died abt. 1848 in Choctaw Co., Ms. Henry was living in Choctaw Co., Ms. On the 1850 Census. Their children were ; William Fox, born Mar. 6, 1791 – died July 23, 1852 , he married Pricsilla Wooten. John Fox born Feb. 3, 1793 – died Sept. 26, 1847 , he married Rebecca Wooten. Thomas Fox born May 8, 1795 – died Dec. 29, 1876 , he married Elizabeth Johnson Brent. Henry Hal Fox born Mar. 11, 1798 – died Nov. 2, 1852 , he married Susannah Doughty. Henry & Susannah were both buried at the Fox Cemetery . Winnie C. Fox born Mar. 25, 1800 , Joseph Carroll Fox born Jan. 25, 1802 – died Jan. 30, 1879 , he married Margaret Crossland. Amy Ann Fox born Jan. 10, 1804, Mary Polly Fox was born Jan. 18, 1806 , died Mar. 30, 1857 , she married David Denton abt. 1818 in Cocke Co., Tenn. They had 4 known children! David & Mary Polly “Fox” Denton were also buried here at the Fox Cemetery . Jacob Fox born Jan. 19, 1808 – died Dec. 8, 1884 , he married Mary Ann Finnell. Unity Fox was born May 3, 1810 , - died Nov. 1, 1855 in Choctaw Co., Ms. She married Samuel Oden Pryor Oct. 4, 1828 in Tuscaloosa Co., Alabama . Samuel & Unity were buried at the Pryor Cemetery, Webster Co., Ms.! Agnes Fox was born July 4, 1812 , James Thigpen Fox, born May 30, 1814 – died Sept. 22, 1883 . And Dorcas Fox was born June 21, 1816 , and died abt. 1880.  

 

Henley Cemetery – Sapa, Ms.  -            James C. & Mary Henley

James C. Henley Sr. was born abt. 1773 in North Carolina, and died abt. 1875 in Webster Co., Miss., he & Mary were probably buried at the Henley Family Cemetery . They had five known children, James C., John William, Armstead M., Anne, & Osborne Henley. James C. Henley Jr. was born 1810, died before Apr. 7, 1919 in Webster Co., Ms.! His wife’s name was Harriett, and they had 7 children. John William Henley was born abt. 1817, died 1861 in Choctaw Co., Ms. He married Elizabeth B. Mann abt. 1853, and they had 6 children. James C. & Mary were living in Chickasaw Co., Miss. On the 1860 Census.

 

Hightower Cemetery -                 Henry Harrison Hightower

William T. Hightower was born June 2, 1805 in Elbert Co., Georgia, he died Nov. 4, 1845 in Lodi , Montgomery Co., Miss. He married Royzamond Anderson Lloyd June 2, 1828 in Marion , Perry Co., Alabama , they had 8 known children. Royzamond was born May 16, 1810 in Hancock Co., Georgia, the daughter of Levi James & Charlotte “McGhee” Lloyd. She died July 31, 1884 at Lodi, Montgomery Co., Miss. Wm. & Royzamond were buried at the Hightower Family Cemetery, Webster Co., Miss. ! Their children were ; James Charnel Hightower, born Oct. 22, 1829 in Perry Co., Ala. , died June 8, 1920 at Mt. Vernon, Webster Co., Ms. And was buried at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery . Susan Serrepta Hightower was born Oct. 22, 1831 in Perry Co., Alabama , died Dec. 5, 1893 in Van Buren, Crawford Co., Arkansas . Nancy Ellen Hightower was born Dec. 5, 1833 in Choctaw Co., Ms., died Apr. 27, 1913 in Grenada Co., Ms. She married William Franklin Hamer Dec. 7, 1853 , they were buried at Pleasant Grove Cemetery , in Montgomery Co., Ms.! Joshua Allen Hightower was born July 20, 1835 , died Nov. 20, 1880 in Miss. ! Ann Elizabeth Hightower was born July 5, 1837 in Choctaw Co., Ms., she died July 18, 1857 . Henry Harrison Hightower was born July 8, 1842 , in Choctaw Co., Ms., he died Jan. 13, 1884 in Webster Co., Ms. He married Susan Woodson Golding Jan. 22, 1867 in Choctaw Co., Ms.! Sarah Earl Hightower was born Apr. 3, 1844 in Choctaw Co., Ms. She died Feb. 8, 1894 . William Thomas Hightower was born Mar. 15, 1846 in Choctaw Co., Ms., he died July 24, 1928 in Sweetwater, Nolan Co., Texas . Henry Harrison & Susan “Golding” Hightower children were ; Annie E. Poe, born Oct. 28, 1868 , died June 1, 1895 , she married Marion Jasper Poe Dec. 26, 1893 in Webster Co., Ms. Nannie Sue, born Dec. 1880. Hart Haven was born Mar. 6, 1883 , died July 30, 1938 . Clementine J. was born Apr. 8, 1869 , died July 10, 1945 . Reed G. was born Aug. 1870, he married Lillie Holloway. William Thomas was born Feb. 12, 1872 , and died Oct. 13, 1938 . Thomas was born abt. 1873, Mary was born abt. 1874, died May 5, 1881 , she was probably buried at the Hightower Cemetery . Henry Clifton was born Aug. 29, 1875 in Webster Co., Ms., and died Mar. 25, 1943 in Rankin Co., Ms.! Maggie B. was born Jan. 1879, and Henry Mae Hightower was born May 1885, death unknown.       

Hicks Cemetery – Bellefontaine, Ms. - Alfred Burton & Sarah J. “Moore” Hicks

Alfred Burton Hicks was born May 3, 1818 in North Carolina, and died May 21, 1858 in Choctaw Co., Mississippi . He married Sarah Jane Moore abt. 1836, and they had 12 children, 6 son’s, & 5 daughter’s! Alfred B. Hicks was a minister at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, and other church’s in the area of Bellefontaine, Ms.! Alfred & Sarah were on the 1850 Census of Choctaw Co., Ms., and Sarah J. Hicks was listed on the 1860 Census as a widow, with 11 children. Their son Alfred Burton Hicks Jr. was living next door to his mother, with another family. Their son’s were ; Luther C., Francis W., William Theodore, James Henry, and Alfred Burton Hicks. Their daughter’s were ; Mary Ann, Beatrice, Elmira Spencer, Sarah J. McKee, Alice S., and Emma “Hicks” Spikes. Emma married Elijah Franklin Spikes, and they were both buried at the Spikes/Hicks Cemetery, Webster Co., Miss. !

 

Holmes Cemetery Walthall , Miss. -   Archibald & Amanda B. Holmes

Archibald Holmes was born abt. 1829/30 in South Carolina, the son of John & Rebecca Holmes. He died after 1870 in Choctaw Co., Miss. He married Amanda B. before 1857, and they had 6 known children. Amanda B. Manda Holmes was buried at the Holmes Family Cemetery, just north of Walthall, Miss., along with two infant children. Known children were ; Tempa Holmes born abt. 1858, Martha A. Holmes, born abt. 1863, Sarah Holmes, born abt. 1865, and William Holmes born 1869. Archibald was living with his parent’s; John & Rebecca Holmes on the 1850 & 1860 Census of Choctaw Co., Ms.,  By, 1870 Archibald & Amanda were living near Walthall, Ms.

 

Hutto Cemetery Eupora , Miss. - Joseph D. & Elizabeth “Garvin” Holmes

Joseph D. Hutto was born abt. 1803 in South Carolina, he married Elizabeth Garvin abt. 1826, and they had 8 children, 5 son’s, & 3 dau’s. Their oldest son Aaron Hutto was one of the first sheirff’s of Webster Co., Ms. In 1874. One of their daughter’s was Elendor Ellen Hutto, born Nov. 7, 1849 in Choctaw Co., Ms., and died Oct. 18, 1934 in Webster Co., Ms. She married John Young Pogue Feb. 2, 1878 in Webster Co., Ms. Another son of theirs was Moses Hutto, born abt. 1836, he married Xantippa Tipher Wherry, dau. Of Jackson C. & Keziah (Shaffer) Wherry.

 

Jennings Cemetery                   Boswell Smith & Nancy Crowley Jennings

Boswell Smith Jennings was born abt. 1801 in Oglethrope Co., Georgia, and died abt. 1859 in Choctaw Co., Ms. He married Nancy Crowley Dec. 30, 1823 in Oglethrope Co., Georgia. Nancy was born Oct. 13, 1804 in Georgia, the daughter of James M. & Dorcas “Smith” Crowley . Nancy died Nov. 18, 1871 in Choctaw Co., Ms., she and Boswell were buried at the Jennings Family Cemetery, south of Holenlinden, Webster Co., Ms.! Boswell was buried in a copper casket, in his Confederate Uniform, and his gold watch. He was the son of Robert B. & Tabithia (Lockhart) Jennings . Boswell & Nancy had 11 children, 5 daughter’s, and 6 son’s. One of their daughter’s was Nancy Jennings, born Nov. 11, 1833 in Edgefield Co., South Carolina, and died June 6, 1859, the about the same year as her father! She married Benjamin Cody Williams June 25, 1852 in Choctaw Co., Ms. They were buried at Double Springs Methodist Church Cemetery , just a few hundred yard’s from the Jennings Cemetery .

 

Old Bellefontaine Cemetery -      Gideon & Penelope Watson

Gideon Watson was born abt. 1797 in Georgia , and died May 8, 1878 in Bellefontaine, Webster Co., Miss. , he married Penelope Dunn bef. 1820, and they 8 known children. They probably had other children, that had already married. Penelope was born abt. 1806/07, also in Georgia , she died July 18, 1859 in Choctaw Co., Ms. Gideon was living in Choctaw Co., Ms. By 1837, and was listed on the Choctaw Co., Ms. Census of 1837, 1840, & 1850. On the 1860 Census Gideon had several of his grandchildren living with him, Sarah E., & Charles Henry Pepper! Also Wiley C. Sugg was living with him.  He was living there as a widow on the 1860, & 1870 Census. In 1860 he lived near Montevistia, Ms. And by 1870 he was at Bellefontaine, Ms.! His & Penelope’s children were ; Serena Watson born abt. 1821, died 1855, she married Jesse Allen Pepper, and had two children ; Sarah Elizabeth, & Charles Henry Pepper. Sarah Ann Watson was born Oct. 23, 1823 , & died Nov. 5, 1850 in Choctaw Co., Ms. Sarah married William Goodman Sugg, and they had two son’s; Wiley Calhoun, & William G. Sugg! Sarah later married David Bryant. She was also buried at Old Bellefontaine Cemetery ! Gideon Watson was born abt. 1833, Elender Watson born 1835, Penelope, born 1838, James, born abt. 1839/40, Martha Watson, born 1842, and Virgil A. Thomas Watson was born 1850/51, he was buried at North Union Cemetery , at Bellefontaine, Ms.!     

Old Pisgah Cemetery -                       Amos Bishop, John R. Boyles, James Paden

John R. Boyles was born Apr. 12, 1787 in Tennessee, the brother of James Anderson Boyles, of Perry Co., Alabama . He died Jan. 26, 1851 in Oktibbeha Co., Mississippi . His wife’s name was Lydia , born Sept. 22, 1795 in Kentucky , and died Dec. 6, 1859 in Oktibbeha Co., Miss. , she & John R. were buried at Old Pisgah Cemetery, probably some of the first that was buried here. They lived in Oktibbeha Co., Ms.   From 1837 until their death’s. John R. Boyles can be found on the 1840, and 1850 Census of Oktibbeha Co., Miss., and a land record, were John purchased land in abt. 1850, in Chickasaw Co., Miss.! Two of their known children were also buried here, Edmond G. Boyles, and Sarah M. Boyles. Edmond G. was born Dec. 15, 1823, & died June 29, 1851, less than five month’s after his father’s death!  Sarah M. was born Feb. 22, 1837 in Alabama, and died Sept. 24, 1838. Other children were William Flourney Boyles, Jane Boyles, and Eliza Boyles. Jane may have been the wife of Benjamin Bryant Eiland, list’ed in the Webster Co., Ms. Marriage’s, they supposly married Apr. 12, 1876. William F. & Martha Boyles were living in Oktibbeha Co., Ms. On the 1860 Census. Their children were ; Edmond , born 1856, Oscar, born 1858, Mary, born 1859/60, Roxie, born 1862, George, born 1864, and John Boyles, born abt. 1872!  In 1860, William F. Boyles sister; Eliza was also living with him. He was born Sept. 1, 1825 in Alabama , and died Dec. 12, 1894 !    

 

 

Amos Bishop was born abt. 1813, in North Carolina , and died Apr. 17, 1871 probably in Oktibbeha Co., Ms.! He married Mary Jane Polly Quinn Jan. 19, 1835 in Duplin Co., N. C. Mary Jane was born abt. 1817 in N. C., and died Feb. 21, 1870 in Oktibbeha Co., Ms. Amos & Mary Jane were buried at Old Pisgah Cemetery, Webster Co., Ms.! Amos & Mary Jane lived in Oktibbeha Co., Ms. On the 1850, & 1860 Census of Oktibbeha Co., Ms., they had 10 children ; Mary Bishop was born abt. 1836 in N.C., and died abt. 1860. Zilphia Ann Bishop was born June 3, 1838 in N.C., and died May 8, 1912, she married Thomas Burchfield Aug. 23, 1859 in Oktibbeha Co., Ms.! Francis Bishop was born 1843, she married H. B. Williams. Martha Bishop was born Feb. 13, 1846 in Alabama , and died Oct. 30, 1908 in Webster Co., Ms., she married John Alford June 23, 1869. George Washington Bishop was born Mar. 1848, and died in 1908, John Calhoun Bishop was born Nov. 10, 1852 in Ms., and died Oct. 1, 1920. He married Sarah Page May 12, 1874 in Oktibbeha Co., Ms.! Melvina Bishop was born abt. 1854/55, Willis Bishop was born abt. 1859/60, Thomas Jefferson Bishop was born Feb. 14, 1860 in Ms., and died Aug. 27, 1921 in Webster Co., Ms.! He married Jane L. O’Brian. Jacob Lee Bishop was born Jan. 11, 1863, and died Oct. 15, 1925 in Maben, Oktibbeha Co., Ms. He married Idella O’Brian Dec. 16, 1886 in Oktibbeha Co., Ms.!  

 

James Paden was born Apr. 12, 1787 in South Carolina, he died Aug. 6, 1834 in Oktibbeha Co., Ms. He married Frances Brockman before 1810 in S.C., she was born Feb. 29, 1788 in S.C., and died July 29, 1834 in Oktibbeha Co., Ms. James & Frances were buried here at Old Pisgah Cemetery, in Webster Co., Ms.! They had 10 children, Clarinda P. Paden, was born Oct. 29, 1811 in S.C., she married Benjamin Clark. Marinda Paden was born June 22, 1813, she married John Mayfield Moore, brother of Sarah “ Moore ” Mann, wife of Worsham Mann. Elizabeth Paden was born July 25, 1815, wife of John Dawson. Samuel Henry Paden was born June 5, 1817 in S.C., and died July 26, 1888. Samuel married Malinda Wall, they had six children. He later married Elizabeth Jane Saunders Jan. 26, 1863 , and they had 12 children. Samuel’s first wife ; Malinda was buried at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery, at Mantee, Ms.! Several of his children by Elizabeth were also buried there! John McComb Paden was born Sept. 14, 1819 in S.C., and died Sept. 10, 1895. He married Sara Louisa Bell abt. 1856, and they had 9 children. Susannah K. Paden was born Jan. 17, 1821 in S.C., and died in Dodd City, Fannin Co., Texas . She married Carroll Thompson. Melmuth B. Paden was born May 27, 1822, in S. C., Amelia Frances Paden was born June 13, 1823 in S.C., she married Dr. Jacob Henry McClendon. After she died abt. 1858/1861, Jacob Henry married Sarah Frances Womack, and had 9 children. David Paden was born June 9, 1824, and died Sept. 7, 1826. Franklin Brockman Paden was born Sept. 7, 1826 in S. C., and died after 1870 in Cumberland, Ms.! He married first to Susan Elizabeth, and second to Mary Cynthia McClendon, Mary was a sister of Dr. Jacob Henry McClendon. His first wife was ; Susan E. was born Jan. 23, 1832 , and died June 21, 1853 in Chickasaw Co., Ms., she was buried at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery, Mantee, Webster Co., Miss. !     

Mancell Cemetery                Edmond Morgan & Eleanor A. “Neal” Mancill

Edmond Morgan Mancell was born Oct. 4, 1819 in Alabama, the son of Edward G. & Nancy Ann “Ward” Mancell. He died May 4, 1880 in Calhoun Co., Miss. ! He was buried at Midway Cemetery , in Calhoun Co., Miss. He married Elenor A. Neal abt. 1846 in Chickasaw Co., Ms. Elenor A. was born abt. 1823, the daughter of Elbert & Narcissa “Sprulin. Edmond M. & Elenor A. “Neal” Mancell had 10 children. They were listed living in Calhoun Co., Ms. In 1860, & 1870 Census. Their children were; Narcissa Ann, born Nov. 3, 1846 , & died Sept. 13, 1858 , she was buried at Spikes/Hicks Cemetery. Emilia Ellenor, born Jan. 12, 1861, died Feb. 10, 1862, she was also buried at the Spikes/Hicks Cemetery, near Bellefontaine, Webster Co., Miss. Other children were ; Martha Jane, born 1849/50, Mary Frances, born 1852, Thomas, born 1854, Florinda Missouri , born 1857, and William Mancell, born 1859. Sarah Mancell, born 1863, James Mancell, born 1866, and Susan Mancell born abt. 1868.

 

McClendon/Paden Cemetery -     Dr. Jacob Henry McClendon

Dr. Jacob Henry McClendon was born abt. 1825 in Georgia, the son of Joel & Sarah “White” McClendon. His parent’s were living in Chickasaw Co., Ms. On the 1850, & 1860 census. Jacob married Sarah Frances Womack abt. 1859/1861, Sarah F. was born Jan. 25, 1839 in Ga. , the daughter of Mark Sanders & Nancy Harrison “Jones” Womack. Jacob Henry & Sarah had nine known children, two of them were buried here at the McClendon/Paden Cemetery, they were Mark T., Nannie Maud McClendon. Jacob & Sarah F. were living at Cumberland, Chickasaw Co., Ms. On the 1870 Census, his mother Sarah “White” McClendon was also living them, she was 76 year’s old, and a widow! Jacob’s sister ; Sarah was also living them, age 36. She later married Jesse Carpenter! Jacob Henry & Sarah Frances moved to Lamar Co., Texas before 1880. His sister Mary Cynthia “McClendon” Paden was born abt. 1835, died Apr. 1, 1872 , she was married to Franklin Brockman Paden, Mary was also buried here at the McClendon/Paden Cemetery. Franklin & Mary had 8 known children; James B. Paden born 1849/50, Malinda E. Paden born 1852, Hellen Paden, born 1855, Cordelia, born 1857, Samuel F., born 1859/60, Marinda F., born 1863, & Edna Paden, born abt. 1867.

John Middleton was born Dec. 18, 1779 in Wrightsboro, Hancock Co., Georgia, he died Feb. 1, 1854 in Choctaw Co., Ms. He married Sarah Childers July 31, 1809 in Morgan Co., Georgia, Sarah was born Nov. 4, 1792 in Hancock Co., Georgia, and died July 19, 1859 in Choctaw Co., Ms.! They had 17 children, their children were ; Matilda born Dec. 1, 1812 in Hancock Co., Ga. ! Mahalia was born Sept. 12, 1814 , died Jan. 1815 in Hancock Co., Ga. ! Susannah was born Jan. 27, 1816 in Ga. , and died June 13, 1897 . Malinda was born Apr. 13, 1818 in Ga. , and died July 1823 in Hancock Co., Ga. ! Zachariah was born Sept. 12, 1819 in Hancock Co., Ga. , died Mar. 7, 1872 in Choctaw Co., Ms. He was probably buried here at Middleton Cemetery . William H. was born Mar. 8, 1821 , died in Ga. ! James C. was born Oct. 11, 1822 in Hancock Co., Ga. , died Feb. 23, 1850 in Choctaw Co., Ms.! Lucretia was born Mar. 21, 1824 in Ms., and died Jan. 21, 1887 in Halletsville, Fayette Co., Texas . Holland was born Sept. 29, 1825 in Ms., died Mar. 28, 1847 in Choctaw Co., Ms.! Hosea C. “Moses” was born Feb. 18, 1827 in Ms., died Feb. 25, 1847 in Choctaw Co., Ms. Parks Alexander was born Aug. 11, 1828 , died Apr. 17, 1874 . Benjamin Thomas was born Jan. 10, 1830 , died Dec. 5, 1892 . John Dickenson was born Apr. 25, 1831 , Sarah Frances was born July 10, 1833 , died July 24, 1833 . She was probably buried at Middleton Cemetery . Abrahm Berry was born Aug. 23, 1834 in Bellefontaine, Choctaw Co., Ms., died Jan. 2, 1859 in Choctaw Co., Ms. Andrew Woods was born June 9, 1837 in Bellefontaine, Ms., died Jan. 11, 1874 . And Mary G. was born Jan. 17, 1811 in Hancock Co., Georgia, died Feb. 14, 1883 in Lampasas , Texas . She married Jesse William Rogers Aug. 14, 1832 in Ga. They had 11 children.  James & Zachariah Middleton were buried at the Middleton Cemetery, Webster Co., Ms.   

Norwood Cemetery                John Middleton & Elizabeth “Smith” Norwwod

John Middleton Norwwod was born Jan. 7, 1784, and died Oct. 11, 1860 at Bellefontaine, Choctaw Co., Ms.! He married Elizabeth Smith, they had one known son, Theophitius Norwood, he married Francis Marion Greenlee abt. 1860, and they had three children. Walter Middleton Norwood was born Nov. 27, 1863, died Jan. 28, 1908 in Webster Co., Ms. He married Theodosia Latham. Walter Middleton & Nancy Theodocia “Latham” Norwood were married Dec. 28, 1882 in Webster Co., Miss. , they had a large family of 10 Children. Walter M. had a sister named Martha Belle ( Norwood ) Latham, the wife of James Lawrence Latham, who was a brother of Nancy Theodocia Latham. Walter & Nancy Theodocia were buried at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Webster Co., Ms.! Their daughter’s were ; Ollie Mae Wood, Theodocia Maud Tatum, & Frances Grace Lackey. Their son’s were Arona L., 1884 – 1893, Fred Walter, 1886 – 1970, Everett Theophilus, 1888 – 1958, James Wallace, 1893 – 1947, Gove Gore, 1896 – 1946, Travis E., 1899 – 1899, & John Bunyon Norwood, 1901 – 1902.

Sir James Pittman was born Feb. 3, 1788 in Henry Co., Virginia, he died abt. 1848 in Choctaw Co., Ms. James married Nancy Benton Dec. 27, 1808 in Jackson Co., Georgia, and they 8 known children. Nancy was born Jan. 22, 1791 in Jackson Co., Ga. , the dau. Of Mordecai & Priscilla Benton! Nancy died abt. 1848 in Grenada Co., Ms.  James & Nancy were buried at the Pittman Family Cemetery , near Philadelphia Baptist Church . Their children were ; Mordecai Benton Pittman, he was born Apr. 17, 1810 in Jackson Co., Ga. , died Aug. 29, 1857 in Choctaw Co., Ms. He married Martha Protho Nov. 24, 1836 . Alfred Taylor Pittman was born May 28, 1812 in Jackson Co., Ga. He died May 6, 1879 at Cadaretta, Webster Co., Ms.   Alfred married Caroline King Dec. 12, 1832 in Bibb Co., Georgia. She was born May 20, 1815 , died Apr. 18, 1874 at Cadaretta, Webster Co., Ms. Alfred Taylor & Caroline Pittman were buried at the Pittman Cemetery. Sebron Rowe Pittman was born Sept. 1, 1814 in Jackson Co., Ga. , he died June 25, 1833 in Coahoma Co., Ms.! John Green Pittman was born July 10, 1816 in Ga. Died in Coahoma Co., Ms.! He married Mary Prothro Jan. 10, 1839 . She was born Jan. 15, 1819 .  Priscilla Pittman was Oct. 4, 1818 , she married George Walters Feb. 7, 1839 . Cassandra Pittman was born June 13, 1821 in Jackson Co., Georgia, died Aug. 21, 1844 .  James Archibald Pittman was born June 4, 1826 in Ga. , Martha Teresa Pittman was born Apr. 30, 1830 in Ga. , she married Alfred I. Worsham Feb. 18, 1845 .

Samuel Oden Pryor was born abt. 1810/1811 in Tennesse, and died aft. 1860 in Choctaw Co., Miss. ! He married Unity E. Fox Oct. 4, 1828 in Tuscaloosa Co., Alabama , they had 12 known children. Samuel & Unity were on the 1850, & 1860 Census of Choctaw Co., Miss. In 1860, they lived at Caderetta, Choctaw Co., Miss. ! Their children were ; Winnie Christina Pryor, she was born Nov. 30, 1830 in Tuscaloosa Co., Alabama , she died Apr. 8, 1910 in New Mexico . She married William Nelson Pittman Aug. 12, 1847 in Milo , Miss. , they had 13 children. Mary Pryor born abt. 1832, Phebe, born 1834, she married James Simpson,  James Pryor born 1836, Joseph H. born 1838, Jacob D. born 1840, Unity born 1842, Nancy born 1844, John S. born 1846, George W. born 1848, Martha F. born 1850, and William R. Pryor was born abt. 1852.  William Nelson & Winnie Christina “Pryor” Pittman had 13 children, they were ; Mary Ellen born Jan. 14, 1849 , William Joseph born Sept. 26, 1850, James Nelson born May 23, 1852, Thomas Henry born Feb. 24, 1854, Fannie Bell born Dec. 24, 1858,

Raspberry Cemetery                       Catlin & Sarah “Hair” Murrah

Catlin Murrah was born abt. 1812 in Lincoln Co., Georgia, and died in 1875, he married Sarah Hair May 3, 1833 in Coosa Co., Alabama .  Sarah was born abt. 1816, and died after 1880 in Webster Co., Ms., she and Catlin were buried here at the Raspberry Cemetery, about 3 mile’s west of Walthall, Webster Co., Ms.! They had six known children ; Catherine (Murrah) Hays, born Oct. 7, 1835 , died Aug. 3, 1890 . She was the wife of John G. Hays, they were buried at the Hays Cemetery , less than 2 mile’s from the Raspberry Cemetery . Louisa Murrah born 1841, died Aug. 1879. John M. Murrah was born Aug. 4, 1847 in Pickens Co., Alabama, and died Sept. 29, 1932. He married Jennette Yryphenia Hardy, & Mollie Carter. Josephine (Murrah) Lewis was born Oct. 22, 1848 , & died Nov. 30, 1932 , she was the wife of William M. “Bill” Lewis. She was buried at Montevista Baptist Church Cemetery , along with her son Oscar Lewis. Frances Elizabeth (Murrah) Holland was born July 24, 1851 , died Oct. 14, 1897 in Webster Co., Ms.! She was the wife of Jacob Miller Holland . They were married Feb. 7, 1888 in Webster Co., Ms.! Margaret E. (Murrah) Kolb was born Apr. 18, 1855 in Choctaw Co., Ms., and died Dec. 2, 1926 , she married Andrew Egger Kolb Nov. 7, 1888 in Webster Co., Ms. They were buried at Old Cumberland Cemetery, Cumberland, Webster Co., Mississippi .

 

Rish Cemetery -          George Washington & Priscilla “Gable” Rish

George Washington Rish was born Apr. 8, 1820, on census, he was born abt. 1812/13 in South Carolina, he died Oct. 12, 1862, near Bellefontaine, Choctaw Co., Miss. ! George married Priscilla Gable Dec. 14, 1837 in Tuscaloosa Co., Alabama, and they had 13 known children.  George & Priscilla were on the 1850 Census of Chickasaw Co., Miss., George was 38, Priscilla was 27, born in S. C., and their children were ; William J., born abt. 1839/40 in Alabama . Elender born 1841, Martha Ann, born 1844, Elizabeth born 1846, Nancy A., born 1847, Louisa, born 1848, and Netty Ann S. was born abt. 1849/50. On the 1860 Census of Bellefontaine, Choctaw Co., Miss. , George & Priscilla were living there. Their children were ; Wm. Jasper, Matilda Jane, Martha Ann, Catherine Elizabeth, Nancy Emeline, Louisa Minerva, Netty Ann S., Joseph Wesley, born June 27, 1852 died Oct. 31, 1869, from a accidental gunshot. He was also buried at Rish Cemetery . John Calhoun, and Sarah A. M. Rish.  On the 1870 Census of Calhoun Co., Miss. , William Jasper Rish and his wife ; Margaret were list’ed. Three of his sibling’s were living with them. John Calhoun Rish, age 16, and Sarah Rish age 14. Marion Lafayette Rish, age 9.  William Jasper & Margaret had two children, Charles, & Jane Rish.  George & Priscilla had other children buried there also, Barbara Dorothea, born Dec. 10, 1857, died Dec. 25, 1857. And, Jacob Andrew Rish, born Nov. 17, 1859 , died the same day, Nov. 17, 1859 . Priscilla “Gable” Rish was born Oct. 8, 1820 , in Lexington Co. , South Carolina , the daughter of  Jacob & Dorothea “Oswalt” Gable. She died Jan. 7, 1862 in Choctaw Co., Miss.      

Starnes Tabernacle Cemetery   Jacob & Jane Hadley “Russell” Starnes

Jacob Starnes was born Apr. 5, 1796 in Mecklenburg Co. , North Carolina , and died Oct. 25, 1878 in Webster Co., Ms. Jacob married Jane Hadley Russell May 31, 1821 in Mecklenburg Co., N. C., and they had 6 children. Jane was born Feb. 14, 1802, died abt. 1832. Jacob married second to Faye Dunkin abt. 1833, they had 9 children. Many of their descendant’s were buried at New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery , in Webster Co., Ms.! Jacob lived in Choctaw Co. , Ms. From 1840 – 1870, and lived in Webster Co. , Ms.   From 1874 until 1878 when he died.

 

Scott/McMullen Cemetery –       Avery B. & Elvira Caroline “McMullen” Glasson

William McMullen was born Sept. 11, 1794, and died June 27, 1844 in Choctaw Co., Ms. He married Susannah Scott, and they had several children, one dau. Was Elvira Caroline McMullen, born June 30, 1818 , and died Mar. 1, 1897 in Webster Co., Ms. Elvira married Avery B. Glasson Nov. 10, 1835 in Walton Co., Georgia. They had 10 children. Avery B. Glasson was born Aug. 20, 1804 in Clarke Co. , Georgia , and died Apr. 28, 1873 in Webster Co., Ms. Avery was buried at the Scott/McMullen Cemetery, and Susannah was buried at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery, Mantee, Ms.!

West Cemetery -                          Willoughby & Jane West 

Willoughby S. West was born abt. 1800 in Tennessee , and died after 1860 in Bellefontaine, Choctaw Co., Ms.! His wife’s name was Jane, born 1799 in Georgia , died aft. 1860 at Bellefontaine, Ms. Willoughby was list’ed on the 1840, 1841, and 1845 Census of Choctaw Co., Ms.! He purchased 161.69 acre’s of land in Calhoun Co., Ms. Apr. 9, 1842 . On the 1850 Census of Choctaw Co., Ms. Willoughby was 50, Jane 51, their children were ; Joseph 19, Isaac 18, Sarah 16, Thomas 14, & Andrew was 9 year’s old. They were on the 1860 Census of Choctaw Co., Ms.   With Thomas J. West living with them, he was 24 year’s old. On the 1860 Census of Bellefontaine, Choctaw Co., Ms. Joseph P. West was 29 year’s old, his wife was Nancy R. West age 24, Mary F. 8, Frank S. 3, Missouri A. age 1, also living them was Andrew G. West, age 18. Andrew G. & Joseph P. West were the children of Willoughby S. & Jane West. On the 1870 Census of Choctaw Co., Bellefontaine, Ms. Joseph’s wife Nancy R. West 36, listed as a widow, her children were ; Mary V. 17, Frank S. 12, Missouri A. 10, Emma J. 8, Joseph A. West age 7 year’s old.    

 

Woodhouse Cemetery -             Dr. Virginius Gustavus Woodhouse

Dr. Virginius Gustavus Woodhouse was born Oct. 5, 1835 in Virginia, the son of Thomas K. C. & Margaret Woodhouse, of Oktibbeha Co., Miss. ! He died Feb. 25, 1879 in Webster Co., Ms., and was buried near Holenlinden, Webster Co., Ms.! He married Sarah Gertrude Owen abt. 1860/61, Sarah was born Feb. 6, 1839 , the daughter of Lemuel Augustus & Elizabeth Ann “McClendon” Owen.  Virginius & Sarah had 7 known children, Nellie, Dale, May, Ida, Ola, Fannie, and Ella Woodhouse. He lived with his parent’s on the 1850 Census of Oktibbeha Co., Ms., by 1860 he and Sarah were living at Fame, Choctaw Co., Ms.! On the 1870 Census they were living at Big Springs, Chickasaw Co., Miss. ! After Dr. Virginius died, his wife ; Sarah, and their 7 children moved to Lamar Co., Texas , she was living at Paris, Lamar Co., Texas in 1880.   

 

Womack Cemetery                Mark Sanders & Nancy Harrison “Jones” Womack

Mark Sanders Womack was born Jan. 1799 in Baldwin Co., Georgia, the son of William & Mary “Minter” Womack. He died June 5, 1870 in Chickasaw Co., Miss. Mark married first to Elizabeth H. Avent, and had 3 children, he married second to Nancy Harrison Jones abt. 1836. And they had 9 children. William & Nancy Harrison “Jones” Womack were both buried at the Womack Family Cemetery , off of Will Womack Road , in Webster Co., Miss. !

 

Woodruff Cemetery – Montevista, Ms. - Gideon & Philadelphia “Bobo” Woodruff

Gideon Woodruff was born Aug. 5, 1804 in Spartenburg Co., South Carolina, he died June 20, 1862 in Choctaw Co., Ms. Gideon was one of the Baptist Preacher of Mt. Pleasant Church, at Mantee, Ms.! He helped start church’es in Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Yalobusha Co., Ms.! He married Philadephia Bobo before 1826 in Spartenburg Co., S.C., and they had 9 children, 4 dau’s., & 5 son’s. Their dau’s. were Nancy (Woodruff) Hunter, born Apr. 22, 1829 , she was the wife of Leonadus Hunter. Elizabeth (Woodruff) Gullette, born June 1, 1831 , the wife of Richard Puckette Gullette. Sarah Greer (Woodruff) Wofford, born Aug. 3, 1833 , died July 3, 1907 in Hopkins Co., Texas., She married Isaac Wofford. Julia A. (Woodruff) Harris, born Sept. 25, 1835 , the wife of Moses Harris. Their son’s were ; Aaron Willis, born Sept. 6, 1826 – died Apr. 19, 1854 . Samuel, born Sept. 25, 1835, Seaborn Foster, born July 4, 1841 – died Nov. 30, 1853 in Choctaw Co., Ms.! Amos Parker, born Apr. 3, 1843 – died before 1900. Alyron Berry Woodruff was born Nov. 24, 1845 in Chickasaw Co., Ms.!
