     Hicks Cemetery  Bellefontaine

Directions from Bellefontaine, Miss., on Hwy 9 traveling north, the first road to the right runs northeast to the North Union Cem., the second road to the right runs east toward North Union Cem., the third road to the right leaves Hwy. 9 at the house where Thomas Wister Gary once lived and passes by the old home’s of Virgil Fred Barry Shaw, and Marion Edward Moore. Almost exactly two mile’s from Hwy. 9 is a dim road to the left. It runs some three hundred yard’s north to the Hicks Cemetery.

Elijah Franklin SPIKES  born on 20 Oct 1856  died on 25 Mar 1922

  (note: Elijah Spikes was involved in a number of occupations during his life, to include farmer, mill man, mechanic. He was also a Webster Co. supervisor in 1890. Described as "a good man but not particularly religious". Sometimes referred to as "Lidge". There was a Spikes school near or on Elijah Spikes property, and Elijah was custodian. Elijah Spikes was a stock holder and president of the Monte Vista and Bellefountaine Phone Company in 1909. The stockholders meetings were held at the Spikes school.)
