Abraham Ferguson was born May 7, 1808 in Chester Co., South Carolina, the son of Francis & Hannah (Lewis) Ferguson. Abraham’s parent’s later settled in Greene Co., Alabama. He died Oct. 6, 1871 in Choctaw Co., Miss., and was buried at New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery, in Webster Co., Miss.! He married Louise Holland abt. 1832 in Pickens Co., Alabama. Louise was the dau. of Absalom & Elizabeth (Douglas) Holland. Louise’s Grandfather was Charles Holland the rev. war soldier! Her parent’s, and Grandfather were all buried at New Hope Church! Abraham & Louise had 10 children; Lewis Abraham Ferguson born Oct. 13, 1833- died Dec. 3, 1906. Absalom Holland Ferguson was born Nov. 4, 1837, Sarah E. Alice Ferguson born abt. 1839, married Albert L. Shaffer. Albert was also buried at New Hope! Mary L. Ferguson was born abt. 1841, James Franklin Ferguson was born June 11, 1844 – died Apr. 22, 1926. Martha A. E. Ferguson was born Dec. 7, 1846, and died Oct. 22, 1921, she married Allen Parks Bland. David Ferguson was born abt. 1848, Louisa Adaline Ferguson was born Oct. 22, 1849, died Mar. 1, 1933, she married William Henry Howe. Amanda M. E. Ferguson born July 1852, married John Rufus Hamilton. William C. Ferguson born abt. 1856, no other info. known about Wm.! Absalom Holland was born Oct. 29, 1791 in Ninety-six Dist., South Carolina, the son of Charles & Sarah {Hughes} Holland. He died Aug. 13, 1878 in Hillsboro, Scott Co., Miss. He enlisted in the War of 1812, in the Corp. Miss. Militia. Absalom first married Elizabeth Douglas July 12, 1814 in Madison Co., Alabama. Elizabeth was born Nov. 2, 1795 in S.C., she died Dec. 6, 1860 in Choctaw Co., Miss.! After her death, Absalom married again to Catherine Latham Dec. 1864 in Choctaw Co., Miss.! Catherine was born May 4, 1838 in Choctaw Co., Miss., the dau. of James Lewis & Nancy Jane {Eustace} Latham. Absalom & Elizabeth {Douglas} Holland had nine children, 4 son’s, and 5 daughter’s! They were; Louise Ferguson (wife of Abraham), Sarah Penelope Lewis (wife of Jonathan P. Lewis), Thomas Holland, Jacob Miller Holland, Absalom B. Holland, (husband of Mary E. Shaffer), Amanda Elizabeth Yeates, (wife of Lorenzo Dow Yeates), Charles Miller Holland, Mary Catherine Smith Gunter, (wife of George Gunter), and Maude Yates! Jacob Miller Holland was born Dec. 9, 1828 in Pickens Co., Alabama, and died Nov. 26, 1903 in Webster Co., Miss. He was buried at Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery, in Webster Co., Miss. He married first to Martha S. Henley May 4, 1847, they had seven children. He married second to Martha E. Smith Apr. 18, 1874 in Webster Co., Miss.! They had two daughter’s. Jacob’s third wife was Elizabeth Frances Murrah, they married Feb. 7, 1888. Jacob’s first two wife’s were both buried near him at Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery. He gave this land for the church & cemetery, in Webster Co., Miss.

My grandfather, James Edward Latham died Jan. 15, 1971, and was buried at New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery, in Webster Co., Miss. He married Maggie DeLoria Shaffer Dec. 22, 1904 in Webster Co., Miss. Maggie was buried next to James Edward, they had 10 children; Arthur Sylvester, Summer Field twin to Arthur, James Eckford, William Garner, (my father), Beatrice Elizabeth White, (wife of Eric White) Mary Alice Allen White, (wife of Charles Marion Allen), Lillie Mae Hill, (wife of John Russell Hill), Virginia Latham died young, and infant twin's who died as infant's submitted by William G. Latham Jr.

Maggie Delores {Delorie} Shaffer was born Nov. 1, 1884 in Webster Co., Miss., the dau. of William Albert & Mary Elizabeth {Bettie} “Williams” Shaffer. Maggie died Jan. 19, 1965 in Jackson, Hinds Co., Miss. She married James Edward {Edd} Latham Dec. 22, 1904 in Webster Co., Miss.! Edd & Maggie had 10 children. They were buried at New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Maggie’s Grandparent’s were ; Albert L. & Sarah E. Alice “Ferguson” Shaffer. And Ira Malcolm {Mack} & Mary Elizabeth “Stallings” Williams. Albert L. Shaffer was also buried here at New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery, along with his father; John M. Shaffer! Maggie had several Anscestor’s buried here including five generation’s of her family. Ira Malcolm Williams was buried at Sapa Baptist Church Cemetery.

Sarah was born Feb. 11, 1817 in Pickens Co., Alabama, the daughter of Absalom & Elizabeth “Douglas” Holland. Sarah died June 20, 1889 in Webster Co., Miss., Sarah & Jonathan were buried at New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery, in Webster Co., Miss.! They had nine children, six son’s, and three daughter’s! Their children were; C.M.C. Lewis born Feb. 10, 1840, and died Feb. 15, 1841, he was probably buried at New Hope Cemetery, along with his parent’s. Henry Clay Lewis was born Sept. 3, 1845, and died May 13, 1908 in Webster Co., Miss.! He married Nancy Jane Latham Dec. 24, 1866 in Choctaw Co., Miss.! Nancy Jane was born Oct. 14, 1852 in Choctaw Co., Miss., the daughter of James Lewis & Nancy Jane “Eustace” Latham. Henry Clay and Nancy Jane had 11 children, and they were also buried at New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery! James A. Lewis was born Feb. 27, 1848, and died Feb. 6, 1862. He was probably buried next to his parent’s! Louisa D. Lewis was born Feb. 27, 1848, (twin sister to James A.)., she married John J. Childs Jan. 29, 1869, and they had 4 known children. Jonathan Taylor Lewis was born Jan. 9, 1850, and died July 25, 1935 in Webster Co., Miss.! He married Martha Jane Mann Apr. 18, 1869 in Choctaw Co., Miss. They only had two known children. Alfred A. Lewis was born Feb. 26, 1852, and died Mar. 11, 1852 in Choctaw Co., Miss. He was buried next to his parent’s, at New Hope. Calvin Philley Lewis was born Nov. 22, 1853, and died Sept. 10, 1854 in Choctaw Co., Miss.! He was also buried next to his parent’s! Jonathan P. & Sarah Penelope “Holland” Lewis had several descendant’s buried here at New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery, and some who still live in this area!

John M. Shaffer was born Nov. 19, 1797 in Lexington Co., South Carolina, the son of John Frederick & Magdalina {Eichelberger} Shaffer. John M. died Aug. 10, 1855 in Choctaw Co., Miss. He was buried here at New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery, in Webster Co., Miss.! He was one of the first five men buried at New Hope Church. He had two very old marker’s laying flat on his grave, and a large cedar tree growing at one end of his grave. Now there is a large cross, with his name, date’s of birth & death, and a short biography of his life and family! John M. Shaffer married Mary D. Dolly Smith Feb. 16, 1823 in Perry Co., Alabama. Dolly was born Oct. 15, 1805 in Newberry Dist., S. C., and died Sept. 6, 1846 in Choctaw Co., Miss.! Dolly was probably buried next to John in a unmarked grave, there are sign’s of a grave next to John’s, with large rock’s piled about three feet high! John & Dolly settled in Oktibbeha Co., Miss. Abt. 1837, along with a sister, and three brother’s! John’s sibling’s who travel’ed with him were; William Shaffer, Adam Shaffer, John Frederick Shaffer, and Susannah “Shaffer” Greene! William later moved out west in Madison Co., Tx., and Adam, John Frederick, Susannah, and her husband Jesse Greene, all settled in northern Oktibbeha Co., which is now Clay Co., Miss.! John M. & Dolly later settled in Choctaw Co., which became Webster Co., Miss.! They had 9 known children, 3 son’s, and 6 daughter’s! They were; Mary Ann Hardy 1824 – 1890, Keziah Wherry 1827 – 1903, Sarah Holland 1829 - ?, Albert L. Shaffer 1832 – 1915, Eli M. Shaffer 1834 – 1905, Mary Elizabeth Holland 1836 – 1868, Arrena McBride Miller 1838 - ?, John Thomas Shaffer 1841 – 1898, and Rosa Carolina Miller Clegg 1844 – 1926. Albert L. Shaffer married Sarah E. Alice Ferguson, the dau. of Abraham & Louise “Holland” Ferguson! Who was also buried here at New Hope Presbyterian Church. Albert L. Shaffer was buried at New Hope Church Cemetery also, proven by death certificate! Mary Elizabeth Shaffer married Absalom B. Holland, who was a brother to Louise {Holland} Ferguson! They settled in Choctaw Co., Miss., before the 1850 Census! Albert died Mar. 17, 1915 in Webster Co., Miss., and was buried here at New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Albert married Sarah E. Alice Ferguson abt. 1853/1855 in Choctaw Co., Miss. Sarah was born abt. 1839 in Pickens Co., Alabama, the daughter of Abraham & Louise {Holland} Ferguson. After Sarah died abt. 1879/1880, Albert married a second time to Elizabeth Jane Atwell abt. 1882, they had no children. Albert enlisted during the Civil War, at Columbus, Lowndes Co., Miss.! He was a private in Co. G. 5’th Miss. Calvary, and has a confederate military marker placed in New Hope Cemetery! Albert & Sarah E. Alice {Ferguson} Shaffer had seven children, four son’s, and three daughter’s! They were according to birth; Mary Elizabeth Shaffer born abt. 1856, and died abt. 1938 in Webster Co., Miss.! She married Alexander McAllister, and they had nine children. Arenna K. Rebecca Shaffer was born June 9, 1858, and died Jan. 30, 1932. She married James Thomas {Jim – Tom} Hamilton Dec. 23, 1878 in Sumner Co., (now Webster Co., Miss.)! They had 8 children. William Albert Shaffer was born May 1861, and died abt. 1926 in Webster Co., Miss. He married Mary Elizabeth {Bettie} Williams Jan. 9, 1883 in Webster Co., Miss. They had 8 children, and were my grandmother’s parent’s! John A. Shaffer was born Oct. 1869, and died abt. 1927 in Webster Co., Miss. He married Delia {Dee} Latham Feb. 12, 1889 in Webster Co., Miss.! Delia was a sister to my Grandfather; James Ed Latham! John A. & Delia had nine children. Alice Shaffer was born June 2, 1874, and died as an infant. Allen Frederick Shaffer was born June 2, 1874, (twin of Alice). He died Mar. 19, 1947 in Cooper, Delta Co., Texas. Allen married Ara Ethel Shaw Dec. 19, 1897 in Oktibbeha Co., Miss. and they had 14 children. Luther Albert Shaffer was born May 22, 1877, and died Aug. 16, 1937 in Rosedale, Boliver Co., Miss. Luther married Annie Elizabeth Oswalt abt. 1907, they had five children. Annie died abt. 1921, and Luther married a second time to Martha Lee Cummings abt. 1928, and they had two children.
