William McMahon

William McMahon [my gg grandfather] was born in Alabama approximately 1840 and moved to Webster County around 1843 (or earlier) with his father David McMahon and mother Mary Lile.  William married Maggie McGee around 1867 and they had three children:  Joseph Edward (born 1871 in Webster County), Mary E. (born 1873 in Webster County) and Louis W. (born in 1869 in Webster County).  The McMahon’s have always been farmers in and around the Cumberland area of Webster.

Maggie McGee was born around 1842/43 in Alabama and died between 1873 and 1880.  Her sister Henrietta (born approx 1844 in Ala) lived with the family.  I think they had a brother named George McGee, but I am not positive of this (yet).  All the census’ show that their parents were also born in AL.

In later years William lived with his son Joe Ed (my great grandfather) and his family and then in 1910 the census shows all of them living with son Louis and family in Webster County [including  Aunt Henrietta].

William was in the Civil War and was wounded in the leg.  He carried the ball in his leg till he died.  Both William and Maggie are buried at Marvin Hill.  Their graves are marked with small white crosses which I am told was made by Mr. Pounds.
