| Like many other
counties in eastern Montana, McCone County had many different newspapers
start up. The filing of homesteads required that legal notices be
filed in a newspaper so that the public would be aware. This was
almost like a guaranteed income for the publisher of the newspaper.
At least until the homesteading period was over.
The Montana Historical
Society has microfilm copies of those newspapers marked with an
asterisk. The McCone County Museum has copies of many of
these newspapers, plus an index of obituaries. |
