INSTRUCTIONS & INFORMATION

MASTER INDEX LISTING OF MSGS DETAILED FILES

RESEARCH CATEGORY FOR MONTANA AREA SOCIETY FILES

The Societies that are active members of the MSGS are denoted by an “*” and highlighted in yellow on the accompanying map. The research areas covered by these societies are headquartered within the noted county; however, many records reflect activities that occurred well outside of the current county boundaries. These record files are collected and collated by the following CATEGORIES linking to the detailed record folder information. Many records are on-line; but some are available only off-line. For those type of files instructions will be provided that identifies the procedures needed to procure the information. Most all of these lookups and copying are free, but some have minor costs associated. The files noted within these categories are not duplicated or presented within the Montana state-wide files.

There are three indexing levels established for the location of genealogy records (on & off-line) contained within the following noted descending groupings. These groupings are established as a permanent directional aid leading to the separate and selected record groupings. There are several thousands of them; and the up-loading into the web site will be a continuing and on-going effort. The full site basic record collection should be available by September 2008. After that timeframe, only corrections and additions would be added. So, please check back frequently for new information; or contact the WebMaster (………………..) for status and information.

Under VITAL RECORDS, all of the records from each society are collated for ready access by TYPE of record (Birth, Death, Marriage, etc.). These in turn are linked to the specific record location; on-line for direct access, or off-line via an email contact or other.
