HOW TO OBTAIN COPIES OF
BIRTH & DEATH CERTIFICATES,
MARRIAGE & DIVORCE CERTIFICATES,
& COPIES OF OBITUARIES

Please send as much information as you can to aid in the search.
You will receive your copies much quicker.
Always send a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your request.

Note:  There are not many records before 1890.

To obtain uncertified copies of BIRTH/DEATH RECORDS

Birth certificates less than 30 years old are NOT public record and can only be issued as certified ($5.00).  Also, they can only be issued to the individual named (if 18) mother, or father.  Unless a grandparent has guardianship, which must be proven, grandparents are NOT authorized to get copies - certified or non-certified - birth certificates unless the registrant is more than 30 years old.  If a man requests a birth certificate alleging to be the father, IF, when we bring the certificate up on the system there is no father listed, he can NOT be given the certificate.  For a parent to receive a copy of the certificate, they must be listed on the certificate.  People doing genealogy research will only get an informational copy ($0.50).  Genealogy copies will be stamped as informational and can not be used for any legal purpose.

BIRTH: Need name at birth, date of birth, mother's maiden name and father's name; also reason for request.

DEATH: Person's full name and date of death.  If date is not known, there is a charge of $1.00 per year searched for the information requested.  These searches are done as staff time is available due to staffing shortage, but generally within a week.  The more information provided, the less fees will likely be charged.  Fees must be paid in advance of information being sent, so name, phone, fax or e-mail information should be provided for contact.  A stamped, self-addressed envelope is requested.
