DID NOT KNOW HE WAS ENTITLED TO A PENSION UNTIL TOO LATE
Dear Comrade Webb:
Comrade Archibald Thompson of Troop A, 19th Kansas cavalry, whose postoffice address is Salina, Kansas, has just called today at my office and has given me $3.00 to pay one year's subscription to Winners of the West, his fees and dues as a member of Camp No. 11 national Indian War Veterans, St. Joseph, Mo., for badge and button, and the balance if any to be placed to his credit on dues or subscription.
Comrade Thompson is one of the unfortunate veterans who did not take Winners of the West, therefore knew nothing about Indian War Veterans being entitled to $20.00 per month for the last 10 years, and only found it out after the bill passed on March 3rd 1927. Therefore he lost over $2,000.00 by reason of not being a member of the National Indian War Veterans and Camp No. 11 of St. Joseph, Mo., and a subscriber to Winners of the West. He is now drawing $50.00 per month under his application which was allowed under the Act of March 3rd.
With kindest personal regards to yourself and Mrs. Webb and to our comrades. I Remain,
Very truly yours in Comradeship,
H.L. BURGESS
Olathe, Kansas.
