WINNERS OF THE WEST
Vol. X     No. 4
ST. JOSEPH MISSOURI,
MARCH  30, 1933

REV. JOEL BUELL SHOMAKER

Dear Comrade Webb:

WINNERS OF THE WEST for February came on time and was read, from beginning to end, with much interest. You are doing good work in the publicity field, and publishing a paper in which every reader must be interested.

The package of letterheads you sent me months ago, has been used for writing letters to almost every section of the United States. Comrades write to me about almost everything and I reply to their letters.

I have written 153 articles on Stories of the West and they have all been published in the newspaper for which I was one of the correspondents fifty years ago. The Outlook, Falmouth, Kentucky. In addition to that list of Western Stories I have written a series of feature stories entitled Tales of Fifty Years. Fourteen chapters, or about sixty newspaper columns have been printed. Then I wrote many Stories of Kentucky and they have been published.

A former acquaintance who was Secretary of the Seattle Commercial Club at the time I was on the editorial Staff of the Seattle Post Intelligencer and held numerous public offices, where my time was donated to the people, is now in the publishing business in New York City and has written a book on The West, now being printed.

The publishing house he represents requests me to write a book of 75,000 to 100,000 words, in the form of a history of my experiences in the West. I have made a beginning on the work, which is entitled Fifty Years in the West, by Rev. Joel Buell Shomaker, National Pioneer, Soldier, Traveler, Lecturer, Editor, Teacher, Actor, Farmer, Lawyer and Public Official.

The proposed book will naturally be a record of events connected with Indians, Indian wars and Pioneers in the Story of Western development, through the aid of the Old Soldiers of the Plains, In the War fro Civilization which required practically one century to complete. I am happy to report that my health is improving tan that I am lying plans for continuing in the Race of Life for the One Hundred Years.

With best regards for Comrade Webb, Mrs Webb and all of the Headquarters family I have the honor to remain.

Sincerely yours in comradeship.
