AGE 85, ENLISTED NOV. 19, 1867, COMPANY I, 35TH U. S. INFANTRY.

Dear Comrade Webb:

I have received my membership certificate and wish to personally thank you for the honor of becoming a member of your great National Headquarters Camp, National Indian War Veteran, U. S. A.

I enlisted at Bangor, Maine, November 19, 1867 and was assigned to Company I, 35th U. S. Infantry, San Antonio, Texas, under Capt. Chambers McKibbin, Lieut. C. H. Conrad and First Sergeant Miles O'Rourke. In July 1869 we were sent to Fort Concho, Texas, where we were consolidated with the 15th U. S. Infantry and I was transferred to Company F of the 15th , Capt. E. W. Whittemore and First Sergeant Wm. Skinner.

Those were happy days while stationed at Fort McCavit in 1868 all we had as rations for three weeks was three hard tack a day so hard we had to break them with rocks and they were full of magots.

In September 1869, we were sent to Fort Bayard, N. M., which was Indian country.

I was discharged November 19, 1870, 750 miles from a railroad and 15 of us made our way to Kit Carson, Colorado, where we entrained on the old Kansas Pacific railroad for God's country. I am 85 years of age and pensioned at $50 per month which is a very great help to me in my old age.

We hope however the present Congress will give us an increase.

Always fraternally yours,
Geo. W. Tibbetts.
