Between The Regular Army of the United States and Various Tribes of Hostile Indians Especially During the Years 1838 to 1898 Inclusive. As Reported By The Various Department Commanders To The Office of the Adjutant General of the Army Washington, D. C.

Lists of these engagements have been appearing in the issues of "Winners of the West" beginning with the month of October, 1936, and will continue from month to month until all of such known engagements have been published, when it is intended to issue them in the form of a well bound book, handy for reference. September 26 Prairie Dog Creek, Kans. Trs. B, C, F, L, and M, 5th U.S. Cav.; Trs. B, c, and M, 2nd U.S. Cav.; and 2 companies of Pawnee scouts. Lieut. Col. Thos. Duncan, 5th U.S. Cav., in command. Pursued the Indians to their village, consisting of 56 lodges, which were destroyed the following day. From the Indian prisoner it was ascertained that the band were all Sioux, under Pawnee Killer and Whistler. Some surveyor's instruments were also found and identified as belonging to Mr. Nelson Buck's surveying party, consisting of about 12 persons, all of whom had been recently murdered and their camp destroyed.
