Forts Names Changed
Known for 62 years as Fort D.A. Russell, the military reservation at
Cheyenne today officially changed its name to Fort Francis E. Warren in
compliance with the presidential order issued December 6th,
1929. The name of the post was changed by the War Department as a suggestion
by President Hoover as a tribute to the late Senator Warren of Wyoming.
At the same time Camp Marfa at Marfa, Texas, changed its name to Fort D.A.
Russell.
