Records - Will of James Greer 1879. " I, James Greer of the
parish of
New Maryland, County of York , Province of New Brunswick,
being of
perfect mind and understanding do make this my last Will and
Testament
in form and manner following. -
I will and bequeath to my son John Greer all my real estate
consisting
of the farm on which I now live, will all messauges and tenements
thereunto belonging or in any way appertaining, to have and to
hold the
said real estate, messauges and tenements uto the said John Greer
his
heirs and assigns for ever.
I likewise bequeath to my son - John Greer aforesaid, all my
horses,
harness, cattle, sheep and all other stock whatsoever belonging
to me at
the time of my decease, together with all my wagons, sleds,
harness, and
all my farm implements which I likewise bequeath uto him the said
John
Greer.
I will and bequeath to my daughter Eliza Forbes, (Wife of charles
Forbes) my feather bed all my bedding.
I will and bequeath to my daughters, Eliza Forbes aforesaid, and
Mary-Ann charters, widow of the late James Charters, all the
remaining
part of my household furniture to be divided equally between them.
I bequeath to my two grand-sons James Greer and William Greer,
sons of
the aforesaid John Greer, the sum of ten dollars each, the same
being
the amount of a promissory note which I now hold drawn by Isreal
Smith
and indorsed (sic) byNehemiah Smith, to be paid to the said James
Greer
and William Greer, together with all the interest which may be
due
thereon at the time of payment.
I likewise bequeath to my daughter Eliza Forbes aforesaid the sum
of
seventy dollars, the same being the amount of a promissory not
now held
by me, and drawn by Isreal Smith and indorsed (sic) by Nehemiah
Smith,
the same to be paid to the said Eliza Forbes, together will all
interest
which may be due thereon at the time of payment.
I will that my body shall be buried with decent christian burial
and
that a suitable headstone similar to that at the grave of my late
Wife,
shall be placed at the head of my grave, and I require that my
funeral
expenses and the expenses of the headstone to be placed at my
grave as
before-mentioned shall be paid by the aforesaid John Greer.
I further will and rquire that all Adminstration expenses, and
all other
necessary expenses, of my Ececutors in settling the affairs of my
estate
sahll be paid by the said John Greer, and I do hereby appoint the
aforesaid John Greer to be the sole executor of this my last Will
and
Testament, revoking all former Wills by me made.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal, this 19th
days of
March 1879.

Notes for ARCHIBALD GREER.:
Archibald " Archie " Greer, the son of Robert Greer and
Elizabeth
Charters, was born on Jan. 20, 1866 on the Greer farm in The
Charters
Settlement. Archie was baptized at St. Pauls Church in
Fredericton on
Aug.18, 1871. Archie Greer and a group of men left Fredericton on
September 26, 1901. to spend the winter in the woods near Two
Brooks in
The Tobique River country. Archie was the foreman of the crew of
35 men
with three teams yarding. James Greer drove the lead team and set
the
standard when in one day he put 175 pieces of spuce on the yard.
Walter
Fisher was the cook and was described as being a first rate
fellow who
provides a good breakfast when he turns the men out in the middle
of the
night. His suppers were as good as any first rate hotels in
Fredericton.
Some of the men went home for Christmas. Re; Panb F2906. The
Daily
Gleaner, Fredericton, NB. December 23, 1901. Archie was for many
years a
walking boss for such well-known lumbermen as Robert Aitkin,
Richard
Estey and Randolph & Baker. However he retired when he was
about sixty
years old due to failing health. Archie was a member of the Loyal
Orange
Lodge of Nasonworth. After a few years of failing healthArchie
died on
Nov. 2, 1945 at his home on Gibson Street, Fredericton and was
buried in
the Rural Cemetery Extension, Fredericton.

Margaret Withrow Segee " Maggie ", the daughter of
Abraham and Elizabeth
Upton Segee, was born on March 9, 1873, probably at the Segee
home in
New Maryland, York County, New Brunswick. Maggie was christened
at the
Anglican Church in 1874 and confirmed on October 31, 1886. After
the
death of her husband , Maggie made her home with members of her
family.
Maggie died at the age of 95 on October 25, 1968. at Victoria
Public
Hospital, Fredericton and was buried beside her late husband.
When she
died Maggie had 39 Grandchildren, 125 GreatGrandchildren and 35
Great-GreatGrandchildren. Maggie and Archie had nine children.

old
Archie Greer at the St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church in New
Maryland.
Rev. Mr. Alexander of the Cathedral conducted the ceremony.
Maggie and
Archie celebrated their Fifieth wedding anniversary in June of
1941 with
a reception at the home of their daughter Flo in Springhill,
followed by
a dance at the Victoria Hall in New Maryland. Both were enjoying
good
health and enjoyed having all of their family together for the
first

Catherines Obituary reads as follows; Died at New Maryland -
Mrs.Catherine Rynax, aged 63 years, widow of Christopher Rynax,
of New
Maryland, passed away at her home there yesterday following a
short
illness. Surviving are three sons, Wilbert of this city and
Bernard and
Charles at home, also four daughters, Mrs Chester Phillips of
Rusagonis,
Mrs Hugh Moore and Mrs Ernest Nason of this city and Mrs Stanley
Hodgson
of Toronto; six brothers. John Greer of Danforth ME., Robert of
Tobique,
Archie and Harry of this city and James and Charles of New
Maryland;
also two sisters, Mrs. Steven Bailey of Milltown ME., Mrs William
Horncastle of this city. The funeral took place this afternoon
with
prayers at home at Two O'Clock and service at The United Church
at New
Maryland at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. J.H. Sulston, Oromocto.
Interment was in the adjoining cemetery. Nov 18, 1935.
