Notes for ISAAC DRAPER:
This branch of Drapers are of Irish extraction, and are the children of Isaak Draper of Bandon County cork, Ireland. He married, and had five children, the eldest of which was James, b. 1781. James was heir to a vast estate, but for reasons unknown did not receive it. The estates reverted to the Crown. Faced with this situation, the Family emigrated to New Brunswick, with the exception of Nathaniel who emigrated to Massachusetts.
It is not proven, but presumed that all Irish Drapers are descendents of two English Military Officers named Draper, who went to the relief of Derry in 1676, and whom Draperstowne in the north of Ireland is named after.

Sailed to Boston, was loaded with Barrel staves & cedar shingles, sold ship and cargo in Boston. 2'd ship also a two mast schooner, loaded with same cargo as 1'st, sailed to the West Indies, cargo and ship sold. Developed an import/export business. James is resting in the Lenintine N.B., Canada Cemetery.

James had considerable inventive talent. At the "centennial", he exhibited a vessel he had built entirely by himself. The house in which he died in Brooks Station, Safford County, Virginia, is said to have been the one in which Mrs Southworth wrote "The Hidden Hand".

In 1924-25, Ed worked on a dredge boat as a coal hustler and bucket operator, from Seneth, Missouri to Wintersville, Mississippi to Immokalee, Florida. On July 8, 1926. Ed joined the United States Army, and was assigned to Fort Snelling, Minnesota and sworn in to B Company, 3'd Infantry, attained the military rank of Cpl. Today this unit is honored as the Old Guard, functions a the Army's official Ceremonial Unit, providing Presidential escort, military ceremonies @ the White House, the Pentagon, and elsewhere. They also maintain 24 hour vigil @ the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Ed was discharged from the Army July 7, 1929. Ed worked as a merchandise warehouse Foreman in Saint Paul, Minn during the depression. In October of 1936, Ed and Martha moved to Nortondale, N.B. Canada to a farm they had purchased. They made the balance of their career producing wood products, and farming. In 1977, they sold the farm to one of their Grandsons, and retired in Nackawic, N.B., Canada. Ed was a life long Mason, after retirement became a very active Lodge Member, and Shriner.

The first year of married life saw Hants and Phyllis farming 30 acres of potatoes on the Al Hains Farm in Washburn, Me. They rented the Burtchell house to live in. His Father, Alex had rented the ground and borrowed crop money from John Lyons, Maude's Uncle, for crop expense, intending to farm potatoes in Maine. The U.S. Immigration Service enacted rules requiring a permit for Canadian farmer to farm in the U.S. for the first time that year. There was a three month processing time required, making it impossible to get a crop in that year so Hants stepped in to farm the land. The second year of married life saw them in Robinson, Me. where they farmed 35 acres for wages and team cost, for Clarence Rideout. Hants built a small house on the Rideout property to live in. It was far from weather tight, so they rented a house in Robinson for the winter. The following year, they moved to Castle Hill, Me. They bought the Jack Wells farm from Milton Smith for 1800 barrels of potatoes, to be paid @ 300 bbls per year for six years. The land was so poor that they couldn't make a decent crop, so had to give up and turn the land back after three years. In 1935, they moved to Blaine, Me. where they rented the Irvin farm, they did very well here, but the home and the barn were separated by U.S. Highway #1. Phyllis insisted that her children were not going to be road kill, and that they move, which they did after five years. In 1941, they moved to Robinson, Me. purchasing the Don Sanburn farm. Again they did well while on this farm, croping potatoes, and operating a dairy. While here, they purchased four additional farms in the near proximity, purchased and operated three Mobile service stations, established a Minneapolis Moline tractor and farm equipment dealership, and farm equipment construction & sales business. Bought a potato storage and warehouse in Robinson, operating a potato brokerage and shipping business. Established a hay business, buying baling, and trucking hay to dairy and race horse operations down the east coast of the country. in 1957, Hants bought a large volume of potatoes on a high market, the market folded, leaving him holding the bag, and facing bankruptcy. In 1958, he liquidated his holdings, retired most of his debt, and moved to Hampton Beach, N.H. where he, Phyllis, and Children operated a restaurant and rooming house on the beach for a year. They then moved to Hartford, Conn. and purchased and operated a motel for two years. Then on to California, two elder care businesses, a dairy freeze, a Laundromat, book writing, etc; through these endeavors, retired the balance of his debt. Returned to Maine, a restaurant in Mapleton, fairs and flea markets selling his books, tiffany lamps, and orthotics. Hants is a life long businessman with many experiences, Farmer, Dairy, Truck Line, Restaurant, Farm Equipment Dealership, Potato Broker and Shipper, Senior Health Care, Sales and Service for Orthopedic devices, Author with five books published, etc; Still in business @ the age of 91.
