Clark,Burlock,Thompkins
My ancestors lived in Mount Pleasant on the Clark farm.
My father is Paul Parmer Clarke, son of Lorenzo Parmer Clark and Louisa Burke. He was the son of Darius Burtt Clark and Mary Ann Lewin.
My Mother is Elzena Winnifred Burlock, daughter of George Wallace Burlock Jr. and Lena Flora Tompkins, they lived on the Burlock farm in Bannon.
His father was George Wallace Burlock Sr. and Victoria Adaline (Peed) Hanning (widow).
I have extensive information on the Burlock family but very little on the Clark family before Darius as I do not have his birth date or if born in Canada or Scotland.
I know part of my fathers family was registered with the family name spelled Clark and the rest as Clarke. We moved to Ontario in 1950.
I do have a fair amount of information on my mothers side of the
family, back through the United Empire Loyalists to a David Burlock Burlock
a Loyalist and who died in 1820.
I have two books hard copy that I have not yet transferred to computer files.
Much of this comes from the Burlock family Bibles and was given to my mother.
I am awaiting a book from Gary Hatfield son of Ina Hatfield of Hartland (Ina was married to my uncle Ray)
they had two sons Lloyd who was killed in a hunting accident in the fifties and Weldon who lives in Fredericton, I believe.
Gary is Ina's son by another marriage and he has done some research
on the Clark's of Carleton County and is forwarding me a copy of the
information he has compiled.

My great grandmother and sister from Carleton County were "farmed out" to work for monthly wages when they were very young as their mother had died and their father, for whatever reason was unable to care for them. My great grandmother was born 1897. She was about 9-10 y.o. when her mother died. The time frame would be 1906-1914. Where would I check into to find information about this type of thing? Would children be sent to orphanages or were their special homes they would go to?? How can I find out more about this type of thing?

WORK TRAINS TO THE PRAIRIES: I noticed in the timeline section of this site a mention to men from Woodstock going to the prairies to harvest. I would like to know of any publications that would have any information about this. My grandmother Laura FRANKLIN went to Sask. on just such a work train. We would like some info for a family reunion project we are putting together. Ruth Gulevich
In Mr.Judson M. Corey's book The Story of Knowlesville he mentions. Harvest Excursions continued for more than twenty years. "In the early 1900s many men from New Brunswick went on harvest excursions to the prairie provinces. Special rates were offered by the railways. Twenty dollars would take a passenger as far as Winnipeg. From there on, the rate was one-half cent per mile. As many as 40,000 from the Maritimes went west for the harvest in a given year. Western farmers always wanted to hire New Brunswickers. One group from Knowlesville went to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on Sept. 2, 1899. In some cases a harvest excursion led to longer sojourns in the West, and even permanent residence there."
