Magiftrates and principal Inhabitants
of Charlotte County to His ROYAL
HIGHNESS the DUKE of KENT, &c.

May it pleafe your Royal Hignefs [sic]
WE the underfigned Magiftrates
and principal Inhabitants of
Charlotte County in the Province of
New - Brunfwick, beg leave, in the moft
refpectful manner, to exprefs our grate-
ful fenfe of His MAJESTYs paternal
attention to his Loyal Subjects in Bri-
tifh North America, by the appoint-
ment of your ROYAL HIGHNESS
to the
Chief Military Command of the Pro-
vinces.
At the clofe of the American War,
having chofen our refidence in this
Country, from motives of Loyalty to
His MAJESTY, and attachment to the
Britifh Conftitution, we feel great fatis-
faction in ftating, that the bleffings re-
fulting from our happy choices are juftly
appreciated by us ; and that, as hereto-
fore, we are determined, at the rifque
of our lives, and fortunes, to fecure to
ourfelves and our pofterity so ineftima-
ble an enjoyment.
May your Royal Father, our moft
Gracious Sovereign, be long continued
a bleffing to his Country ; may He, by
the divine affiftance be enabled at his ad-
vanced age, to fupport the accumulated
burdens, which the unparalleled Crimes
of France have laid upon Him and
our otherwife favored Nation ; may the
vigor of his meafures be productive of
an event, as fortunate as juft ; and fi-
nally, may the eve of his Life be peace-
ful and happy, and his Death be crown-
ed with thofe Rewards which his emi-
nent Virtues lead us to pray for.
Be pleafed to accept our fentiments
of perfonal Efteem and Refpect, and
permit us to affure your ROYAL HIGH-
NESS that nothing in our power fhall
be wanting which may be conducive to
the public welfare. |

The foregoing Addrefs was
transf-
mitted by His Excellency the LIEU-
TENANT GOVERNOR to His ROYAL
HIGHNESS, who, in a Letter to His
EXCELLENCY, dated Halifax, 19th
May, 1800 - was pleafed to give the
following moft gracious Anfwer:-
I HAVE to acknowledge with ma-
ny thanks, the Addrefs from the Ma-
giftrates and principal Inhabitants of
Charlotte County, as forwarded in
your Letter of the 2d of May ; I have
therefore to requeft you will be good
enough to fignify to thofe Gentlemen
who figned it, how happy I was made
by the fentiments of Loyalty towards
His MAJESTYs Perfon, as well as flat-
tered by the expreffions of perfonal
regard to myfelf which it contained,
and that I truft my conduct will al-
ways be fuch as not to render me un-
deferving of the joy they have mani-
fefted on my appointment to the
Command of the Forces in thefe Pro-
vinces.
