DANIEL CRILLEY

Daniel CRILLEY was an early comer to this community but one of whom I have to date very little authentic information.  Tradition has it that the CRILLEYS originally settled on the old "Irishtown Road" (above the Rail Road), but later ( like all the others who resided there ) moved either down to the main road in Rolling Dam or up to the Greenock road.  The CRILLEYS apparently lived on the east side of Rolling Dam road opposite to where the McKINNEYS now live.  In 1864 Daniel CRILLEY sold his land ( or a large segment of it) to Robert McKINNEY Jr. who most likely built his good home thereon.  It is believed that Daniel CRILLEY bought this block of land (described as part of Lot. No. 9 ) from Moses McCOUBREY, an original settler.  Daniel CRILLEY also sold a small block (2 1/2 acres) to James McCOUBREY, Blacksmith, at Rolling Dam.  Daniel CRILLEY is believed to have been a school teacher at Rolling Dam, in the early days.  This family background needs much further research.
