Marjorie Isabelle Sawyer, 87, of Grand Manan passed away after a brief illness at the Grand Manan Hospital on Thursday, November 21st, 2002. Born in Grand Harbour, she was the daughter of the late James and Sophia (Ganong) Cook of Grand Harbour. Mrs. Sawyer was a Registered Nurse and spent several years as a nurse in Pediatrics at the Salvation Army Notre Dame DeGrace Montreal, PQ and then moved to Grand Manan to serve at the Grand Manan Hospital. She was a member of St. Paul's Anglican Church and a very active member of St. Paul's Anglican Church Women and served on the Church Vestry for many years. Mrs. Sawyer was survived by one sister Alice (Somers) Newton (Phillip) of Ajax, Ont., one brother Percy Cook (Alice) of North Head, formerly of Shediac, N.B., several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sawyer was predeceased by her husband Milford and two brothers Arlington and George. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 23rd, at 2 PM, from St. Paul's Anglican Church with Layreader Kevin Frankland, interment to follow in the family plot Maple Grove Cemetery. Donations to the Restoration Fund of St. Paul's Anglican Church would be appreciated by the family.
