Marcia Rowena Cheney, 88, of Grand Harbour, passed away at the Grand Manan Hospital Friday Morning October 11th, 2002, after a brief illness. Born in Seal Cove she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Helen (Foster) Brown. Mrs. Cheney was a Telephone operator for many years and operated the Grand Harbour exchange and switch board for the N.B. Telephone Co.. A member of the Grand Harbour United Baptist Church, a former Sunday School Teacher for many years and was also a member of the Grand Manan Curling Club since its founding. Mrs. Cheney was a very devoted volunteer and spent endless hours working for the Grand Manan Museum, she spent many hours working in her flower garden which she so dearly loved. She is survived by one son Carl Cheney (Beverley) Grand Harbour, one daughter Myrna McLaughlin of Oshawa, Ont., one brother Ronald Brown (Barbara) Seal Cove, as well as five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mrs. Cheney was predeceased by her husband Wilfred Lyman Cheney (1982), three sisters Valerie, Jennie, Freda, also five brothers Clayton, Melvin, Borden, Wally and Rowell. The family will receive friends and relatives at Ells Funeral Home on Saturday afternoon 2-4, 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Sunday afternoon, October 13th at 3 pm at the Grand Harbour United Baptist Church, with the Rev. Troy Dennis officiating.
