The petition of William GLENDINNING, Mathew MURRAY, John MURRAY,
James LITTLE, John FOSTER, William SMITH and John WILSON.
Humbly Sheweth:
That your first petitioner was born in Scotland, emigrated to Richibucto
in the Parish of Carleton and County
Northumberland in 1820, is forty three years of age, married and has
six children. Your second petitioner
emigrated as above from Scotland, is forty two years of age, married
and has a family of seven children. Your
third petitioner, from Scotland emigrated as above, is forty two years
of age, married and has five children.
Your fourth petitioner from Scotland, emigrated as above, is thirty
five years of age, married and has four
children. Your fifth petitioner from Scotland emigrated as above,
is twenty five years of age, married and has
a family of five children. Your sixth petitioner from Scotland
emigrated as above, is twenty one years of age and
unmarried. Your seventh petitioner from Scotland emigrated as
above, is twenty one years of age and unmarried.
.....all subject to the Crown of Great Britain-never having obtained
any Grant or allotment of land from the
Crown, is desirous to settle a wilderness tract of land in near of
the Galloway Settlement in the Parish of
Carleton, County Northumberland and to join each other in the following
order.
Westerly- James Little, John Murray, William Glendinning, Mathew Murray,
John Foster, John Wilson,
and William Smith.
Your petitioners further state that it is their intention to settle
and improve the land applied for forthwith
agreeable to the Royal Instructions and that they are of sufficient
ability so to do; and that they have
neither directly nor indirectly bargained nor agreed for the sale or
transfer of said land to any person or
persons whatsoever.
