Newspapers
In the early days of New Brunswick newspapers were published only in the major centers, such as Saint John and Fredericton. Gradually there came into being several regional papers and later newspapers with a more specialized readership, such as Church publications. In recent years those most likely to have data about the people in Kings County are as follows:
Vital Statistics for the earliest years of these papers
have been extracted, but for years following these books one must rely
on the microfilmed editions, many of which are held by the Provincial Archives
of New Brunswick. However, PANB does not have a complete collection of
these papers. The item following is about an ambitious project undertaken
to gather all the vital statistics (and personal data) from New Brunswick
newspapers. Unfortunately the books so published are now out of print (due
to the death of the compiler/publisher) but many libraries have copies,
as have some individuals. The names of early NB newspapers follow, as does
a sample of what you might find in the books that were published.

You may find many clippings of personal events in Scrapbooks that are in Libraries, Museums, the PANB, and in private hands. The New Brunswick Museum, Saint John for many years carried out a "clipping project", where they clipped many items from local newpapers and made scrapbook. These were turned over to the Saint John Free Public Library, and may be consulted there. It is possible that they are also on microfilm. See : for obits online, as well as many other GebWeb pages.

Over 100 Years of Complete Genealogical Extracts
From New Brunswick, Canada Newspapers 1784-1890
Since that time, extracts have been taken from newspapers
dating from 1784 to 1889. Every page of each newspaper was scanned for
even the most obscure items. Over 300 reels of microfilm were viewed and
400,000 full name references were extracted. In November 1992, the Search
& Extract Service (SAE) was introduced to find the occurrence of family
surnames, to extract the selected entries, and to reference the newspaper
source. Unfortunately with the death of Mr. Johnson in early 2005, this
service is no longer available, but his work has now been put online at
the Provincial
Archives of New Brunswick.
