Kings County GenWeb
New Brunswick - Canada

BEGIN HERE:

This site has been developed to help researchers find their ancestors and their families. As we begin this process we may not have a clear idea of what we actually want to accomplish, but by the time we have progressed to using the internet to aid us, we have made a decision that we want to know more than what we can remember, and what others can tell us. We have also decided upon the method we are going to use to record our findings. It is hoped that all of us are not only recording what we find, but also where we found the information. This seems to be the one item most newcomers to this hobby seem to want to forget about and it is the one thing that gives us a record worth passing along to whomever we intend the record for, parents, sons, daughters, grandchildren or more distant relatives and friends.

For those of you who have yet you choose to choose a genealogy program. there are many good ones to choose from. The one I like best happens to be free, and can be downloaded from the Internet. It is Personal Ancestral File, from The Church of Jesus Christ. It has many features you can use or not use as you like, but some of its main "extras" are an unlimited ability to document your work, and a large file area for notes, plus it can print of your files in several different ways.

Now, lets begin to find out about Kings County sources, where to find them, and how to use them. First a little hint. The proximity of Kings County to Saint John City, has led to many events in the lives of its residents to take place in that place. In fact, in years gone by, it was not uncommon for whole families to live in Saint John during the winter months and return to the land in time for spring planting, or for families of mariners to wile away the long months of separation there. With this in mind, it is wise to consider that such events as marriages might well have occurred in Saint John County, as well as in neighbouring counties on all sides.

A great many links to Kings County Sources and Surname Files can be found at NBGenLinks (see below). Also use it to go further afield with your research, as people seldom spent their entire life in one spot. You can use the links to the site indicated by the several buttons below, for the same purpose.

CAN-NB-KINGS-D-request@rootsweb.com (if you want digest mode i.e. receiving a digest of multiple messages)

In the BODY of the message (and in the subject line if your program needs it) type the word subscribe (or unsubscribe) & mail will come (or stop) to the address on your e-mail, so make sure you use the mail program you want to receive these messages in.

Do NOT use a signature file attached to the e-mail message. Software reads your message and tries to answer each command it finds. When it runs across your signature file it gets a bit confused and will send you a message stating something like 'Do not recognize command 'Jones'. Do not recognize command "Smith", etc.

It is important when UNSUBSCRIBING that you use the right address or you will not be removed from the list.

There is no NO MAIL option if you need to leave the list for a period of time you need to unsubscribe and then resubscribe when you are ready to start receiving messages again.
