Northumberland is one of the original New Brunswick counties, established in 1785 and located on the province's mid-eastern shore. It is bordered to the South by Kent County, created from Northumberland County in 1835, & Sunbury County; to the North by Gloucester County & Restigouche County; to the West/Southwest by Victoria County & York County; and across the Northumberland Strait to the East by Prince Edward Island.
