ANN EUGENIA BROWN
ANN EUGENIA (McPIKE) BROWN – St. George, died October 11, 1965, at the Black’s Harbour Hospital, in her 96 year. Born December 13, 1869 at Utopia, NB, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Rosanna (Mealey) McPike. Her husband Henry Brown predeceased her in February 1919. Mrs Brown is survived by her six children: Alice (Joe) Sampson; Kathleen ( late John) McVicar; Richard (Edna) Brown; Joseph (Minnie) Brown; Eugene; Rose (Winston) Myers of Ottawa. She is survived by 31 grandchildren.
After her father died in 1895 Ann and her mother Rosanna took the train to Minnesota to visit family that had settled out there. While visiting in the States Ann married Henry Brown who was also from St. George. They settled for a time in Vermont where their first child Alice was born.
Ann lived on the old #1 Highway and many people stopped in to visit her and enjoy her company on their way to and from St. George town, as many people walked in those days.
Ann was the last surviving member of her family, she was predeceased by her siblings:
Charles (Mary Ellen Riordan) McPike, died in Stillwater MI; Alice (Elmer) Helwig died in Hayward, WI; Margaret (Daniel) Riordan, Utopia: John, died 1921 in South Dakota; Richard, died in US; Emilia, Hugh and Lill died as young children.
Ann Brown’s wake was at the St. George Funeral Home and the Funeral Mass was held at St. George’s Roman Catholic Church, St. George. Interment was beside her husband in the Catholic Cemetery on Mount Pleasant.
