Bell, Marion Gladys - The death of Marion Gladys Bell, of St. Stephen, N.B., occurred at Lincourt Manor, St. Stephen, N.B., on June 1, 2006. Born in Bonny River, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Donald and Blanche (Kinney) McLeod.

Survived by her sisters, Ethel McCrum, of Heathland, N.B., Evelyn Clarke, of St. Stephen, N.B., Elsie (Joseph) Noddin, of Pleasant Ridge, N.B., and Elvena Marshall, of Heathland, N.B.; brothers, George (Annie) McLeod, of Fredericton, N.B., Ralph (Jean) McLeod, of Pleasant Ridge, N.B., and Norman (Pauline) McLeod, of Pleasant Ridge, N.B.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lyman Bell; one sister and two brothers.

The funeral was held Monday, June 5, 2006 at the MacDonald Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Norman Brown officiating.

Interment took place at the Rolling Dam Cemetery.

Leycester DeVere D’Arcy- Q.C.
1919-2006


Unexpectedly at his residence in St. George NB on September 7, 2006, Mr. Leycester DeVere D’Arcy of St. George NB and Fredericton NB, husband of the late Lois Marguerite (Campbell) D’Arcy.

Born in Joggins Bridge Nova Scotia on April 28, 1919, he was a son of the late Hiram and Louise ( Laing) D’Arcy. A loving father, grandfather and brother ,he is survived by four daughters; Linda D’Arcy, Monica ( John) Antworth and their daughter Lauren and Mary D’Arcy and her son Brayden all of Fredericton and Dianne (Patrick) Walsh and their children, Connor and D’Arcy of Ottawa ON, one son; Mark (Caroline) D’Arcy and daughter Elise of Fredericton, three brothers; Glenn (Audrey) D’Arcy and Delbert (Ruth)D’Arcy both of Saint John and Gilbert D’Arcy of Richmond Va., two sisters; Jean (Norman) Wood of Saint John and Olive Metcalfe of Toronto ON.,one sister in law; Betty Campbell of Saint John, two brothers in-law; Lawrence (Helen) Campbell of Edmonton AB and Dr. Herbert (Karen) Fillmore of Maquapit Lake N.B., several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Lois, one son; Leycester jr., one sister; Susan D’Arcy and one brother; James D’Arcy.

09/12/2006 D'ARCY, LEYCESTER DEVERE, Q.C. - Unexpectedly at his residence in St. George, NB on September 7, 2006, Mr. Leycester D. D'Arcy of St. George and Fredericton, husband of Lois Marguerite (Campbell) D'Arcy, who predeceased him on September 17, 2005. Born in Joggins' Bridge, NS on April 28, 1919, Ley was one of eight children of Hiram and Louise (Laing) D'Arcy. The family soon moved to Saint John, NB where Leycester graduated from Saint John High in 1936. He worked as a salesman for Robin Hood Mills prior to enlisting in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941. He served in England with the 405 Pathfinder Squadron, along with his brother Gilbert. Upon his release from the service in 1945, Ley attended the University of New Brunswick graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1947 and a bachelor of civil law degree in 1951. He fell in love with an army nurse, Lois Campbell, married in 1947 and settled in Rothesay where Ley commenced the practice of law. In 1952 he joined the Attorney General's Department in Fredericton as Crown Prosecutor. He was instrumental in implementing the 1953 Unsatisfied Judgment Fund, drafted the first Liquor Control Board Regulations, prosecuted or assisted with most murder cases in the province during the fifties and sixties and was appointed Superintendent of Insurance for NB. In 1970, Mr. D'Arcy entered private practice with offices in Fredericton and later, St. George. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1972 and was recognized in 2001 by the Law Society with a lifetime membership for fifty years of service. During his career he appeared several times before the Supreme Court of Canada. Mr. D'Arcy never retired and spent his last day in his office at St. George. Mr. D'Arcy was known to be fair, generous and principled, with a gentlemanly manner for whom nothing was ever too much trouble. He took great joy in his family, his work and his homes in Fredericton, "the red house" and St. George, "the white house". He particularly loved being at the cottage on Lake Utopia, surrounded by family. Mr. D'Arcy was a wonderful Dad to six children: Linda, Dianne (Patrick Walsh, Ottawa), Monica (John Antworth), Mary and Mark (Caroline Lubbe D'Arcy) of Fredericton. His son, Leycester DeVere, died in 1969 at the age of 16. He was a doting Grampy to five grandchildren: D'Arcy and Connor Walsh, Elise D'Arcy, Lauren Antworth and Brayden Leycester D'Arcy. He was a dear brother to Glen (Audrey) D'Arcy, Delbert (Ruth) D'Arcy and Jean (Norman) Wood of Saint John; Olive Metcalfe of Toronto and Gilbert D'Arcy of Richmond, Virginia and was predeceased by Susan D'Arcy and James D'Arcy of Saint John. He was a special brother-in-law to Betty Campbell of Saint John, Dr. Herbert (Karen Love) Fillmore of Maquapit Lake and Lawrence (Helen) Campbell of Edmonton. He was Uncle Ley to many nieces and nephews. Mr. D'Arcy was a beloved employer to many, particularly Rhonda Boyd and most recently, Carolyn Connor, and will be missed by their families as well. Visitation was held Friday at the St. George Funeral Home. A funeral mass was celebrated in Fredericton at St. Dunstan's Church on Saturday by Father Gerald White, assisted by Father J.J. Dolan and Father Monte Peters with readings by Lauren Antworth and Brayden D'Arcy. Longtime family friend, Joseph Higgins, delivered a memorable tribute to Ley. Pallbearers were Michael Connor, Tom Bursey, Stephen D'Arcy, Mark D'Arcy, John Antworth and Pat Walsh. The family gratefully acknowledges the friendship, respect, admiration and love expressed by the people of Charlotte County and elsewhere for our parents, Ley and Lois. To Carolyn and Michael Connor, Sue McKillop, members of the bar, the "girls" at the registry office, health professionals, political associates, acquaintances at businesses, shops and restaurants, neighbours, old friends and our extended family, a heartfelt thank you from their children. We are all enriched to have had them in our lives and their memory will forever be in our hearts.

Mrs. Hazel Iona (Hooper) McVicar
1910-2006


Peacefully at her residence in L’Etang, NB, surrounded by her family on August 27, 2006, Mrs. Hazel Iona (Hooper) McVicar, wife of the late Kirby Roy McVicar. Born in Back Bay, NB, on March 1st, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Elizabeth (Leslie) Hooper. A loving mother and grandmother she is survived by two sons; Vance (Ruth) McVicar of L’Etang, Ross (Joanne) McVicar of St. John NB, three daughters; Greta Hartford and Thelma Hanley both of Back Bay, NB and Iona (Arthur) Corimer of Rexton, NB, 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by two sons; Watson (Sonny) and Bernard McVicar, three grandsons; Dennis Hanley, Bernard A. McVicar and Blair McVicar, one son in law, Whitman Hanley, husband of Thelma, and daughter in law Helen, wife of Watson (Sonny). She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Hazel was a member of the Seaview Full Gospel Church in Back Bay, NB. In her earlier years she had worked as a sardine packer for Conners Brother’s Limited in Back Bay. She loved knitting and quilting and also enjoyed solving word puzzles.

Resting at the Seaview Full Gospel Church, in Back Bay, NB from where the service will be held on Wednesday at 2 pm with Rev. Gordon Cooke officiating. Visiting will take place at the church on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. In Hazel’s memory, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

DONALD WILLIAM McKAY
1924 - 2006




Peacefully, at the Saint John Regional Hospital on June 5th, 2006, Mr. Donald William McKay, husband of Emma “Sue” (Scullion) McKay, of Pennfield, NB. Born at L’Etang, NB on October 6, 1924, he was a son of the late Robert M. and Katherine (Hinds) McKay. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he is survived, besides his wife, by one daughter, Lorna (Steven) Ball of Fredericton; one son, John McKay of Pennfield; two grandchildren, Stuart and Donald Ball of Fredericton; one sister, Pauline Sprague of Passamaquoddy Lodge, St. Andrews; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.

Donald was a life long employee with CP Rail as an engineer. He loved mechanical work. He had served in England with the RCAF as an aircraft mechanic during WWII. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #40, St. George, was a Shriner, a member of the Masonic Lodge #12, F & AM, and the Luxor Flag Unit. Don was also a member of Christ Church (Anglican) Pennfield, for many years.

Resting at St. George Funeral Home (506-755-3533), 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB E5C 3L6 with visiting on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Masonic Tribute will be held on Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm, followed by a Legion Tribute at 6:45 pm. The service will be held on Wednesday at 11 am from Christ Church (Anglican) Pennfield, followed by interment in the church cemetery. William Thomas George Wells

1945-2006

 Unexpectedly, surrounded by his loving family, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, NB on September 29th, 2006, Mr. William Thomas George Wells, age 61, of St. George NB. Born in St. John, NB on May 7th, 1945, he was the son of the late Thomas and Elsie Wells. Bill is survived by his loving and much loved companion; Barb Rayner of St. George, his children; Vicki (Art) Wiggins of Edmonton AB, Stacey (Kevin) Wells of Blacks Harbour NB, Andrew (Kim) Wells also of Blacks Harbour, nine grandchildren; Michael, Jennifer, Matthew, Michelle, Sean, Janna, Mason, Kelly and Joseph, four sisters in Canada, three brothers and three sisters in Scotland. He was predeceased by his parents, one sister Pat and one brother Alex.

 

Bill was employed with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans for 37 years. He was known for his kind and generous heart, his sense of humor, his love of animals and his devotion to his family and friends. He was an avid hockey fan and he always looked forward to his trips down south. “Uncle Bill” leaves a huge void in many lives, which will never be filled.

 

Visitation will take place at the St. George Funeral Home (755-3533), 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB on Monday, October 2, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, at 11:00 am from St. Marks Anglican Church, St. George, with the Rev. David Genge officiating. TRYNOR (BALDWIN), MARY FLORENCE

 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Halifax on Monday, October 16, 2006. Born in St. George, NB, on July 8, 1915 she was the daughter of the late Morton E. and Jessie (Armstrong) Baldwin. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount St. Vincent University in 1977. Florence will be remembered for her contributions to her community. In New Brunswick, she was Worthy Grand Matron of Granite Chapter, Eastern Star as well as a volunteer for her church, Red Cross, Cancer Society and she began the first Brownie troop in her town. Moving to NS in 1951 she continued to volunteer with the Girl Guides, served as Provincial Commissioner for 5 years, received the Guides' highest honor, The Beaver, and a Life Membership. She was the first to chair the Welfare Services Committee for the Halifax Unit of the Cancer Society and served as chair of the Mastectomy Recovery Program. She was deeply involved in the life of the Cathedral Church of All Saints and the Diocese of NS, serving as President of the Anglican Church Women for the Diocese of NS, President of ACW for the Cathedral of All Saints and of the Gordon Group. She served as chair of the Alexandra Society, the Halifax Women's Public Speaking Club and as Regent of Marion S. Morrow IODE. She was on the Executive of the Canadian Federation of University Women, The Nimrod Investment Club, Canadian Pensioners Concerned. She served on the Federal Seniors Advisory Committee on Tax Administration. She was a past member of the Provincial Council of Women of NS, Royal Commonwealth Society, Heritage Trust, Art Gallery of NS and Diabetes Association. Florence enjoyed her hobbies of painting and reading. She is survived by her son, Richard (Maxine) Trynor, Boudreau West, NB, and her daughter, Jeanette (Greg) Booth, Halifax, brother Donald (Dawsie) Baldwin, St. George, and sisters Marjorie Hawkes, Fredericton and Anna MacKenzie, Winnipeg, son-in-law Ross Weeks, Dartmouth, sisters-in-law Eleanor Millett, Fredericton and Eileen Trynor, St. George, by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary and Ross Weeks' family, Karen (Bob) Kusins, and children Christopher, Mallorie (Caleb) Leduc, and Jonathan, Shelley Johnson and daughter Jessica, Maryann (James) Martin and children Amanda and Aric. Richard and Maxine Trynor's family, Emma Trynor and her mother Krista, Cindy Trynor (Derek Hull) and children Kate and Peter, and Amy Trynor. Jeanette and Greg Booth's family Lorraine (John) Neville, and children Craig and Allison, Lynn (Pierce) Egerton, and children Marie Burgess and Noah Egerton, William Booth (Clair Campbell), and son Alexander, Christopher Booth (Yuka Sembo). She was predeceased by her husband, George H. in 1987, daughter, Mary Weeks in 1997, and grandson, Howard Trynor, in 2003 and by brothers Harold, Oscar, Edgar and sisters Marion, Helen and Bessie (in infancy). Florence set a great example for her family and friends to follow. They will surely miss her beacon of enlightenment and strength. Special thanks to her wonderful care givers Shirley Hann, Phyllis Cox, Sherry Farrell, and Audrey Seaward. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at All Saints Cathedral, Tower Road, Rev. Robert Richmond officiating on Saturday, October 21 at 2 PM. Family flowers only. Memorial donations to the All Saints Cathedral Restoration Fund, Canadian Cancer Society or The Girl Guides of Canada would be appreciated.

LEE HAMILTON BANGOR and LINCOLN - Edith Hamilton, former resident of Freese's Assisted Living Residence, Bangor, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Colonial Health Care, Lincoln. She was born July 9, 1916, in Bonny River, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Harry A. and Florence (Sherwood) Craig. She was the wife of Nels Hamilton, who passed away December 1980. She lived in the Danforth and Bangor areas and for many years worked at the Eastern Maine General Hospital. She is survived by her five children and their families, a devoted and caring daughter and son-in-law, Joyce (Lee) and Frank Fish of Lincoln, Hazel (Lee) and Dr. Orland Anderson of Saratoga, Calif., Adelbert W. "Bud" Lee of Bangor, Donna (Lee) and David Chase of Gwinn, Mich. and Sharon (Lee) Snyder of Enfield, Conn.; four sisters and their families, Florence Chambers, Mary Steen, Shirley and Clinton Hatt, all of St. George, New Brunswick and Eileen and Frederick McLellan of St. Stephens, New Brunswick; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Mildred MacDonald and Frances Justason; and two granddaughters, Lynn Falconi and LuEllen Fish.
Family and friends are invited to visit 12:30-1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 17, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Rd., Lincoln, where a funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. with Pastor William Bewell officiating. Private interment will be in the Springfield Village Cemetery at a later date.


Doris Margaret Taylor

1916-2006

 Peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital, surrounded by her family, Doris Margaret Taylor, wife of the late Thomas Henry Taylor of St. George, NB, passed on to be with the lord on October 23, 2006 in her ninetieth year. Born in Pennfield, NB, on October 27, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Irene (Wainwright) Palk.

 

She is survived by two sons; Blair (Susan) Taylor of Red Deer AB, Larry (Karen) Taylor of Saint John NB, seven daughters; Irene (Cecil) Moreside of Calais ME, Joyce Parks and Rosealene (Paul) Graham both of Guelph ON, Beatrice Dorey of Oshawa ON, Nancy (Ron) McFarlane of Lake Utopia NB, Elizabeth (Phil) Marrs of Old Town ME, Linda (Tim) Henderson of St. Andrews NB, 19 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, two sisters; Betty (Wesley) Cook of Pennfield, Eleanor Young of Saint John and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Doris was predeceased by her husband Thomas, one son; Eugene, one daughter; Lillian, one grandson; Philip Moreside, one son-in-law; Philip Parks, three brothers and two sisters.

 

Dot was an avid gardener, and could often be seen planting flowers. She made the most of her life and always enjoyed helping others whenever she could. Dot’s greatest love in life was children.

The service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 11:00 am from St. Mark’s Anglican Church in St. George, with the Rev. Canon John Matheson officiating.
